Christopher Booker's Column explains the bureaucratic way in which the UK government has apparently failed to implement a water-tight ban on the incandescent light bulbs. According to the government they should be banned as from 1st September, but it is doubtful if there is a clear law to back up this ban. This article shows how the low energy bulbs are being promoted on a false prospectus. We must wait for the first "light bulb martyr" to be prosecuted for selling one!

Love the idea of doing what we can to save energy and clean up the planet, but hate the idea of being forced into this particular action.

We need persuasion not coercion. This is all about gesture politics and will achieve nothing.
