UK ENERGY POLICY - USE IT WHEN YOU CAN

This clip from the Telegraph (not on line for some reason) refers to the head of the National Grid talking about a future in which electricity is not always available on demand. It sounds like a policy for political suicide to me, though I think the government could stumble into this situation by accident, but I never thought they would actually plan for it to happen.

  1. And, of course, it is planned to introduce "smart meters" as the means of rationing.

Derbyshire County Council is recruiting "eco warriors" to show people how to save on power and produce less rubbish. Each trained "eco warrior" is expected to recruit another seven or eight - so it is a sort of pyramid selling scheme.

They will presumably be rather like the wartime air raid wardens, going round shouting "put that light out!"

Derby City COuncil had 13 staff devoted to "fighting climate change" but this will be reduced to nine because of "the cuts".

  2. It is indeed an upside down world. Maybe the cuts will save us!
