Considering the new Labour Government claimed there was a £20 Billion black hole left by the previous government, it is a strange coincidence that they have managed to find £22 billion to spend on schemes to capture and store CO2. These are highly controversial schemes, as we know down here on the South coast in the New Forest, where a similar scheme proposed by Exxon has suddenly been dropped after attracting some opposition from local people, including the local Green party. What we are starting to see, is that there is now a debate on the effectiveness of the policies to reach net zero, even if there is still very little debate on whether there is a need to reach it in the first place.
