I am sorry to say it, but Chris Packham comes across as a condescending smart-arse in this debate, when he says, without any evidence, that "the science" is on his side, and that his opponent relies on information from those paid by the fossil fuel industry. He blusters because he cannot recite any actual evidence because there is none.

 I could not believe the figure for the number of viewings for today. Maybe the hit counter is playing up. I usually get about 1000 to 2000 on a good day, but this figure is way off the chart. 

You are all welcome and keep coming back for the important news on climate change. I will get the final figure at midnight. My best month was around 73,000, so I doubt if that will be beaten, but you never know.

NATIONAL ELECTRICITY PRICES COMPARED

According to research by Eurostat in the race to the most expensive electricity in the world, this week the UK is the winner.  The bottom line is that from 2008 the price of electricity in China fell from €100 down to €80 per megawatt hour. While in Australia it rose from €125 to €300 and in the UK prices rose from €150 to €360.

 Effectively, the price of electricity fell 20% in China at the same time as it rose 240% in Australia and the UK.  the percentage of wind and solar power penetration on each national grid pretty much predicts the order of the price graphs the EU collated. Among this pool, the nation with the highest penetration of wind and solar power is the UK which gets 29% of its electricity from wind and solar power.  Australia is second at 26%, and the EU collective third at 22%.

NET ZERO IS "TOTALLY UNNECESSARY" SAYS LEADING SCIENTIST

Even if you believe that CO2 is causing a climate emergency there is absolutely no need to try and reach net zero. The fact is that atmospheric CO2 levels will start to fall even if we carry on emitting most of the CO2 we are currently emitting.

The reason is due to something called the CO2 “sink rate”. It has been observed that the more CO2 there is in the atmosphere, the more quickly nature removes the excess. The NASA studies showing “global greening” in satellite imagery since the 1980s is evidence of that. According to Roy Spencer each year nature removes an average of 2% of the atmospheric excess above 295ppm. 

So now we know that net zero is not only massively expensive and impossible, but it is also quite unnecessary.

I know there are some people out there who say there is no debate. Everything is  settled and we now simply have to stop emitting CO2. That is simply unscientific. Science works by looking at all the evidence, not just the bits which appear to support one particular argument. If any facts don't fit then a theory is wrong. This is quite a long interview with Adrian Hayes at 55 minutes but the main focus on his climate change views starts at 20 minutes in. His gradual realisation that the idea of CO2 controlling the world's temperature is far from certain is interesting and came after doing a detailed investigation. It is a journey that quite a lot of thinking people have made. What made this interesting for me was that I know Adrian's family, they were neighbours of mine.

According to this article there are some parallels between the behaviour of the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) and the German Courts under Hitler.  Both were captured by an ideology and so stopped being independent. A very dangerous situation!

Apparently Switzerland produces 0.1% of world CO2 emissions, so any policy it enacts could not possibly have any measurable effect on the climate even if they eliminated all CO2 emissions tomorrow. The court's decision is completely irrational - the complete opposite of what a court should be.

There is also the point that it is weather which gives rise to heat waves and there have always been periods of uncomfortably hot weather and there is nothing that can be done to stop it.

TIME TO LEAVE THE EUROPEAN COURT OF HUMAN RIGHTS

A group of elderly women claimed they were vulnerable to heat waves! Has the world gone mad, I ask. There is no explanation of how they convinced the court that heat waves were increasing and this was definitely due to man made CO2 emissions. I have no doubt there will now be dozens more of these crackpot cases, costing tens of thousands in lawyer fees. I hope the UK will now leave this court which seems to have extended "human rights" way beyond what was originally intended when the court was set up.

The Climate Intelligence Group, known by the name Clintel, originated in Holland but is now international and is responsible for organising the World Climate Declaration which concludes that there is no climate emergency. This has been signed by hundreds of leading scientists, as well as many unknown ones like me. You will note that he pays lip-service to the climate change emergency by blaming the rich nations for causing it, yet he has no intention of sacrificing his own countries wealth to stop it. Whereas the "rich West" must take the blame and pay up until a leader emerges who dares to say NO.
