MORE SCARE STORIES IN THE PRESS

It seems that scientists frequently associate their work with climate change in order to get publicity, however tenuous the link. In this example you can see that they have stretched credulity to the limit. These allegations only serve to make people more sceptical of the whole issue.

SOLAR ENERGY DELUSION

Solar energy can be very useful in countries which have a sunny climate, but for the UK they have only a limited use as there is not enough storage to cover the long periods when there is no sun, or very limited sun. This video explains more:

UK MINISTERS NEED TO TALK TO EACH OTHER

The Chancellor, Rachel Reeves, wants to grow the economy, whereas the Climate Change Minister wants to get to net zero. What they need to understand is that to achieve anything close to net zero you have to sacrifice growth, which means you will lose the next election.

TRUMP "REVIEWS" THE SOURCE OF CLIMATE LAWS

The endangerment finding is the linchpin of much of the EPA’s climate-related regulatory authority. Issued during the Obama administration, this finding declared greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrous oxide as pollutants that endanger public health and welfare. By initiating this review, President Trump has taken the first step toward unraveling the faulty rationale that has fueled countless overzealous climate policies.

CLIMATE BILL BITES THE DUST

The radical "Climate and Nature" bill has failed to clear its first hurdle in the House of Commons. It is now unlikely to become law. So we can all breathe a sigh of relief that even this government is not mad enough to commit economic suicide at the rate that this bill would have achieved. However the current net zero is just a slower version along similar lines as we will find out in the next few years.

Climate and Nature Bill falls as MPs vote to end debate - BBC News

It is worth mentioning that, if what is constantly being fed to the public about there being a climate emergency due to man made CO2 is true, then all these privations would be necessary. Luckily the scientific evidence does not support what is being fed to us and I suspect a lot of our leaders know this but dare not admit it as they know it would immediately make them look very foolish. On the other hand if there are some who actually believe it, they know that they dare not implement such a drastic policy as they know it would destroy the economy.

The result is that we carry on with a policy which is still very costly and damaging, while at the same time will not achieve its intended goal. Not only that, but unless all major countries implemented the same stringent policy it could not possibly work.

When this period of human history is written, future generations will be amazed at the huge fuss that was made of what might be called the "climate issue", just as today we look back at the "witchcraft issue".

JUST A REMINDER OF WHAT THE CLIMATE AND NATURE BILL WOULD LEAD TO

Net zero is a mad aim as it currently is being followed by the UK government, but for those of a puritanical nature there is an even madder version set out in a back-bench MPs bill. If this were to passinto law here's what it would lead to:

WILL BLACKOUTS COME TO BRITAIN?

Here in this linked 40 minute video there is an in-depth discussion about the UK electricity supply system. It focuses on the effect of wind and solar energy on the reliability of it, and the risk of blackouts as we approach 2030 when the Labour government have set out to make the supply net zero CO2 emissions. This should be essential listening for the government, as well as all voters!

HEAT PUMPS MAY NEVER BE CHEAPER THAN GAS BOILERS

This has been admitted by Ed Miliband, the Labour minister in charge of the UK energy system and net zero. I think he should have said "WILL" rather than "may". Despite this, the government are still planning to introduce a scheme which will come into force in April, whereby boiler manufacturers will be fined if they fail to sell enough heat pumps.

Companies in the sector have previously warned it would add £120 to the cost of a new boiler – leading it to be dubbed the 'boiler tax'.

WHAT THE CLIMATE AND NATURE BILL ACTUALLY MEANS

The Climate and Nature Bill sounds innocuous enough, in fact it is a wolf in sheep's clothing as this article reveals. However before we start to man the barricades it must be noted that this is a back-bench bill that is not supported by the government so it is highly unlikely to pass into law, which is just as well!

CONSERVATIVE LEADER DENOUNCES PREVIOUS NET ZERO POLICY

Net Zero Watch welcomes the admission by Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch that the 2050 decarbonisation target was ‘a mistake’ and that it was put in place without any plan to deliver it.

This new position will undoubtedly lead to speculation that the party is about to adopt a radically different climate and energy policy.

What a pity it has taken so long for them to realise this. Still it is a welcome change.

THE DECLINE OF THE GULF STREAM EXAGGERATED

In the Atlantic Ocean, a system of connected currents, called the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation (AMOC) often referred to as the Gulf Stream, moves water throughout the world’s oceans powered by a combination of winds and ocean density. As the climate is continuously changing and the atmosphere is warming, many scientists fear that fresh water from melting polar ice sheets could significantly disrupt—or collapse—the AMOC. While a decline of the AMOC would have grave consequences, a collapse would be truly catastrophic.

In a new paper published in Nature Communications, scientists found that the AMOC has not declined in the last 60 years.

IS THE END OF NET ZERO IN SIGHT?

President-elect Donald Trump said Tuesday he would seek to have a policy of having no wind farms constructed during his second term, threatening billions of dollars in planned wind projects.

“We are going to have a policy where no windmills are being built,” Trump said during a lengthy tirade against wind power during a press conference at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida.

Trump, who has vowed a first day executive order targeting wind farms, has long made no secret his disdain for the energy source. But his remarks Tuesday represented the sharpest threat yet from the incoming president.

DOUBLING CO2 COULD BE OFFSET BY A 1% INCREASE IN CLOUD COVER

Acknowledged leading physicists,  Drs. van Wijngaarden and Happer, have produced the evidence in a new paper. Since CO2 has only risen by 50% since 1750 (280 ppm to 420 ppm), CO2’s total greenhouse effect influence in reducing outgoing radiation has thus far been in the range of tenths of a percentage point. A less than 1% change in outgoing radiation over hundreds of years is not even detectable amid the noise of outgoing radiation measurement. Observation error in measuring Earth’s outgoing radiation is 33 W/m², for example.

ANTARCTIC SEA ICE RETURNS TO NORMAL

That is not a headline that immediately grabs your attention, but it is actually true. It will probably disappoint those who like to strike fear of climate change into the mind of the public so that they readily accept the massive costs they are about to be burdened with to control the climate back to what it was in the good old days before we had central heating motor cars and aircraft. MET OFFICE TRIES TO FEND OFF ATTACKS ON ITS FAILINGS

The UK Met Office must be getting worried that it is facing scrutiny that is long overdue. It is desperately trying to discredit the criticism of its weather stations and the data they produce. Unfortunately for them the cover-up is only making matters worse. They would be far better off admitting their mistakes and putting things right, but, just like the Post Office, that is the last thing they want to do. Read the latest report here:

RECENT GLOBAL TEMPERATURE INCREASE INTENSIFIED BY REDUCED CLOUD COVER

A recent paper by Helge F. Goessling, et al., published by AAAS Science, looks at the possible cause of the recent global temperature surge and suggests it has been intensified by record-low planetary albedo”. The abstract states:

“In 2023, the global mean temperature soared to almost 1.5K above the pre-industrial level, surpassing the previous record by about 0.17K. Previous best-guess estimates of known drivers including anthropogenic warming and the El Niño onset fall short by about 0.2K in explaining the temperature rise. Utilizing satellite and reanalysis data, we identify a record-low planetary albedo as the primary factor bridging this gap. The decline is apparently caused largely by a reduced low-cloud cover in the northern mid-latitudes and tropics, in continuation of a multi-annual trend. Further exploring the low-cloud trend and understanding how much of it is due to internal variability, reduced aerosol concentrations, or a possibly emerging low-cloud feedback will be crucial for assessing the current and expected future warming.”

Previous papers have pointed out a warming of the oceans, particularly in the tropics. Since infrared radiation (from greenhouse gases such as CO2) cannot penetrate the ocean surfaces beyond a few millimeters (small fractions of an inch) increasing atmospheric CO2 cannot be an explanation of ocean warming over a few years, but increased sunlight at sea level can.

CLIMATE SCIENCE IN 1974 FROM USA REPORT

Here is a summary of an article written in a Report in 1974:

Annual average temperatures over the Northern Hemisphere increased rather dramatically from 1890 to 1940, but have been falling ever since. The total change (by1974) has averaged about 0.5 degrees Centigrade, with the greatest cooling in higher latitudes. Iceland's hay crop has dropped by 25% since the 1950's, while pack ice in waters around Iceland and Greenland ports is becoming the hazard to navigation it was in the 17th and 18th centuries.

From 1890 to 1940 man enjoyed the warmest climate the world had known for 5 or 6 centuries. Dr. Reid Bryson, Director of the University of Wisconsin's Institute for Environmental Studies, thinks that the relatively warm period from 1890 to 1940 was only a brief intermission in the Little Ice age, a perid of worldwide expansion of snow cover, mountain glacier growth, and Arctic pack ice which began in the 15th century and became pronounced by the 17th century. There were three major glacial advances in the Alps, Norway, Iceland and Alaska and elsewhere around 1650, 1750 and 1850 separated by slight withdrawals. Average annual temperatures in England and perhaps worldwide were 1 to 2 degrees Centigrade colder than they were before or since (as at 1974). In the USA average Midwestern temperatures in the 1850's were as much as 4 degrees C. colder than they are in 1974.

GERMANY MAY STRUGGLE TO KEEP THE LIGHTS ON AS RENEWABLES INCREASE

Germany is aiming to cover 80 percent of its electricity demand with renewables by 2030, and have a largely decarbonised power supply by 2035. To make sure the lights stay on at all times as the share of intermittent renewable energy increases and coal is phased out, the Germans plan to build hydrogen-ready gas power plants, but these may not materialise fully as investment risks are too high, warned energy associations BDEW and VKU. Read more here:

Note to UK government - Even Germany is not planning to decarbonise its electricity supply completely by 2030, but they are struggling to achieve 80% by 2035.
