COAL BOUNCES BACK IN THE UK

This article gives the details of the latest situation here in the UK. Despite all the rhetoric we are importing coal because it makes economic sense.

  1. Can we look forward to eventually reopening our own coal mines and approving more opencast coal sites? The latter end up fully restored to agriculture or park land.

  2. I suspect that the price of coal would need to rise quite a lot before it would be economic for us to do that. But I would not rule it out in the future, as it would give us security of supply in an uncertain world. You are right to point out the restoration work which is great for the environment.
