This site is a reference point for those with a cool head for climate science, arguably the most political science ever. When the government and most of the media concentrate on alarmism, this site is the antidote for those who don't believe the scare stories - YOU ARE NOT ALONE! (blog started on 7/11/07) We have over 2 million hits and blog is updated regularly most weeks.

PEAK OIL POSTPONED
The head of the Royal Society of Chemistry in an interview has explained that there is far more oil in reserves than usually quoted in official figures. So there is no great urgency to find alternative technology - other than to comply with the phoney CO2 climate theory.

NASA TO HOLD PRESS CONFERENCE ON THE STATE OF THE SUN
Regular visitors will recall that we have previously reported on the unusual absence of sunspots. This has now been going on for rather a long time and this report on "Watts up With That" talks of a press conference by NASA on the subject.

ENVIRONMENT AGENCY TRIES TO STOP NEW COAL-FIRED POWER STATION
Yet more inconsistency at the heart of government as the Quango Environment Agency wades in with a report which wants to ban all coal-fired power stations until they can be fitted with carbon-captuure. See this report in the Times. All this nonsense while we face imminent power shortages. Of course by then all this lot will be out of power and so couldn't give a damn. Can they be tried for gross dereliction of duty? (no - of course not!)

FREEDOM ZONE AT TORY CONFERENCE
This year's Conservative Party conference looks like being the most upbeat for years, and this time delegates will have an alternative to the main platform speakers on Monday 29th and Tuesday 30th September. The Freedom Association (TFA) in conjunction with other like-minded organisations has booked a superb venue just outside the security zone see HERE for full details of venue and programme of events.
A key session is to be on climate with an emphasis on actual science rather than computer predictions. The panel includes Ruth Lea and Christopher Monckton, and is chaired by Roger Helmer. I am very much looking forward to listening to the discussion.

EU CO2 PLANS - "A DISASTER FOR ECONOMY"
This report of the comments from leading German industrialists should be a warning to all the governments in EU member states. If carbon has to be paid for, then everyone will pay, driving business and jobs away.

PROFESSOR URGES UK TO DUMP RENEWABLE ENERGY TARGETS
Professor Ian Fells new report urges the UK government to dump its targets for renewable energy. He joins a growing chorus of experts and commentators who are all warning that the government's adherence to the unachievable EU targets will cause the light to go out.

SCHOOL PROPAGANDA WARS
Almost a year ago a High Court Judge ruled that Al Gore's polemic "An Inconvenient Truth" was not an ordinary science film, but it was a piece of political propaganda which could only be shown in schools if special guidance was followed. Nevertheless the government decided to continue to promote the film to all secondary schools in England.
In the interest of balance The Freedom Association (which I am proud to be the climate spokesman for) is offering a free DVD of "The Great Global Warming Swindle" to all secondary schools in the UK. So far the offer has been extended to schools in Leicestershire and there has been an encouraging take up. Teachers do not like being lectured to by government and want to give students a broad understanding of the very complex issues involved in global climate. We must never allow any government to give prescriptive instructions on the political matter taught in school.

BANKRUPT LEHMAN MISSES OUT ON CARBON TRADING BONANZA
Christopher Booker's Column explains the link between the former banking giant and the emissions trading nonsense about to be inflicted on all of us. As Prof. Stott has written “‘Global warming’ is sub-prime science, sub-prime economics, and sub-prime politics, and it could well go down with the sub-prime mortgage.”

UK COMPANIES CALL FOR ACTION ON CO2
This BBC story explains that a number of leading company bosses have written to the political parties to urge them to continue with the policies of replacing fossil fuel with renewables. It is strange that companies like Shell and British Airports would call for policies which appear to be against their business interests, but I suspect it is more a case of appearing to be "green" as good PR - more about image than substance. So dominant is the theory of man-made global warming that it has become automatic for business to publicly support CO2 reduction. It is rare indeed for any business to do the opposite. It is in this way that the idea of "consensus" is claimed and regardless of the science our politicians will continue to pay lip-service to it.

VACLAV KLAUS SPEAKS OUT
In a world full of politicians who are afraid to speak out on controversial issues for fear of damaging their prospects of power, it is good to report on one who is brave enough to do so, such as Vaclav Klaus.

LETTER PUBLISHED BY LGA
Back in July I wrote a piece about the Local Government Association urging councils to aim for a higher renewable energy target than that set by the government.
Astonishingly they have now published my letter in their weekly magazine "First" sent to all councillors. It will be interesting to see what response, if any, they get in the next editions.

ANTIDOTE TO BBC PROPAGANDA
For those who have seen the latest BBC offering on global warming - see below - I suggest this short lecture by Prof. Carter. For further reading I also recommend the excellent John Daly website for evidence that today's temperatures are not exceptional.

EARTH - THE CLIMATE WARS
The BBC have been putting out a programme on Sundays at 9pm on BBC2 for the last two weeks on global warming. The final part is next Sunday. The programmes can be viewed online HERE. It seems clear to me that the series is propaganda in favour of the theory of man-made global warming. Three hour long programmes is rather tedious and the presenter, Dr. Ian Stewart, tries hard to give the impression that he is a neutral observer, while clearly steering us to one conclusion. Unfortunately for the BBC their programme clashes with a popular drama and viewing figures have been low (only 1.6 million).
In the first programme he reviews the history of the subject and in the second he seeks to demonstrate that the evidence clearly shows that man-made CO2 is the cause of the recent warming. His main "evidence" was the notorious hockey-stick graph of temperature over the past thousand years which has been discredited by many reviewers, see HERE and HERE.
In the programme he even concedes that there is strong evidence that Greenland was warmer during the medieval warm period than it is today, but then goes on to state that the Hockey Stick graph says it didn't happen. In other words he believes that a reconstruction using tree-rings is more reliable than actual written evidence.
The BBC would like us to believe that the "climate wars" are over and that the alarmists have won, but in fact they are just entering a new phase when the computer model prediction meet with the reality of climate, and this is a battle even the BBC may have trouble with.

GW - BEST VALUE OPTION IS DO NOTHING SAYS OFFICIAL AUSSIE REPORT
This report in the Australian Herald explains how their equivalent to the Stern Report by an expert called Ross Garnaut has come to the interesting conclusion that the most cost-effective thing to do concerning global warming is nothing. So now we have it from an expert!

COMMON SENSE FROM CONSERVATIVE COUNCILLOR
At last we are getting people prepared to speak out publicly to denounce the climate alarmism that has been infecting so many of those in positions of authority. See this article to read the unfounded alarmist nonsense coming from paid council officers and the common sense views of a Birmingham councillor. I would like to congratulate Cllr. Barton for having the courage to speak out. Many others agree with him but fear that saying so publicly will adversely affect their career or lead to unpleasant remarks about them. It is so much easier for people to keep quiet and keep a low profile, but doing so is to allow alarmists to inflict massive costs on us all.

CANOIST STUCK IN ARCTIC ICE
This post explains that the intrepid canoist who was being shown on the BBC news several nights running has now run into some real ice and is beginning to get stuck. So much for the Arctic being ice-free. I wondered what had become of him. The final irony would be if he got eaten by a polar bear!

COW FARTS DESTROYING THE PLANET
The man who leads the IPCC, Rajendra Pachauri, has said we should eat less meat to prevent global warming. The brilliant "Watts Up With That" blog makes the following point:
"Before the introduction of cattle, millions upon millions of buffalo dominated the Great Plains of America. They were so thick you could not see where the herd started and where it ended. I can only assume that the anti-meat, manmade global warming crowd must believe that buffalo farts have more socially redeeming value than the same flatulence emitted by cattle. Yes, this is absurd, but the deeper one looks into this global warming juggernaut, the weirder this movement becomes and the more denial is evident."

UK JUDGE CLEARS ECO PROTESTORS
It seems as though US climate scientist James Hansen has influenced a UK jury into clearing a group of Green Peace activists who scaled a power station chimney to daub slogans on it. They were protesting against a proposal to build a new coal-fired power station on the site. See HERE to read the report. By interpreting the law in this way the decision could open the floodgates to protestors to use the same defence for anything else that concerns them. Could be the road to anarchy. They may appeal.

ECO-FUNDAMENTALISM
Someone passed me a copy of a magazine called by the unexiting title "Polymer Training and Recycling Magazine". He drew my attention to an article in the centre pages. I found it very interesting and on searching the internet I discovered it online HERE. To find the article turn the pages until it appears entitled "The Danger of Eco-Fundamentalism". A very timely message and one with which I agree.

POWER SUPPLY PROBLEMS SURFACING
This report in the Times may well be a warning of the problems to come this winter. Any major power cuts would be the end for this government and would quickly change the priorities of an incoming Conservative administration.

MORE TAXES ON THE WAY
This report in the Sunday Express gives the details. It seems our governments both at Westminster and in Brussels are determined to put up the cost of living for us all. Let's hope that the opposition comes out with something to vote for.

THE IPCC's HOUSE OF CARDS
Christopher Booker deserves great credit for his brilliant expositions of the global warming scams. Thanks to his writing millions of people are able to see things which would otherwise be much harder to see. In this recent column in the Sunday Telegraph he sums up the whole charade, putting all the main points together.
The climate is changing, it always has and always will. We just have to accept it and adapt to it. It is simply far too complex for us to understand it fully, let alone control it. The posturing, the hot air, and the massive industry that has grown up around it will all be seen in the future to be as stupid as the Southsea Bubble, or come to that the Sub-Prime Mortgage fiasco! It makes you wonder why anyone trusts governments at all.

US CLIMATE SCIENTIST IN UK TO STOP NEW COAL-FIRED POWER STATION
This story in the Telegraph describes how NASA climate scientist and leading alarmist James Hansen has been in the UK to support GW activists trying to prevent the new coal-fired power station from being approved.
According to THIS REPORT the US is already moving away from coal in a massive way, encouraged by alarmist scientists like Hansen.
Energy security is the big factor that could change the picture dramatically. Coal is still abundant both in the US and the UK, and so is much more secure than oil and gas imports. Slight global warming versus energy security - it's a no-brainer!

POLITICAL POWER AND ENERGY SECURITY
This article on EU Referendum Blog explains just why we must obtain security of energy supply, and this means rapid expansion of nuclear power. Our present policy makes us beholden to Russia which is politically unacceptable. Political strength comes from economic strength which requires a guaranteed energy supply.
DRIER WEATHER AFFECTS MOSS IN JAP GARDENS
My headline doesn't sound quite as dramatic as the one in The Telegraph, but it is actually much nearer to the truth. OK, so the climate is changing and they may need to water the moss a bit more, but this is hardly earth-shattering!

IS EU BACKTRACKING ON CO2 PLEDGE?
This story released by Reuters explains that a little light may be dawning on the EU leadership, that their leading industries may be at risk if they continue to hike up their costs in the name of global warming prevention. This is another example of government waking up to reality and deciding that maybe the people are more important than giving lip-service to the alarmists.
