No proper scientific paper would be published without clearly showing the error bars for its measurements, and yet the Met Office claims to have measured record temperatures only 0.1 degrees above the previous record using data which has inaccuracies of +/- 2.5 degrees. This report has the details:

ELECTRICITY PRICE - EXCHANGE IN THE HOUSE OF LORDS
Just occasionally there is a glimmer of sense in the fantasy world of climate change and someone goes off script as it were. The exchange of words, below is from a debate on UK electricity prices in the House of Lords. Lord Frost begins by asking the following question:
To ask His Majesty’s Government what assessment they have made of the overall cost-competitiveness of electricity generated from recently commissioned offshore wind farms compared to electricity generated from recently commissioned gas-fired power stations at current gas prices.
My Lords, offshore wind is one of the cheapest generating technologies in the UK and is comparable to or cheaper in cost than fossil-fuel based alternatives. It is a vital technology that will allow us to decarbonise the power sector by 2035 and enhance the UK’s energy independence. The department publishes its cost estimates in the generation costs report.
My Lords, I thank the Minister for that response, but I gently suggest that perhaps he needs to look more carefully at the plausibility of the assessment he has just given. If renewables were as cheap as he asserts, it is hard to understand why bill payers and taxpayers are having to pay about £12 billion per year in subsidy, which is £600 for every family in the country. If offshore wind can be produced for £50 per megawatt hour, as his department asserts, it is hard to understand why the Government have had to offer twice that this year to get anyone to take up a contract. Would the Minister agree thatToggle showing location of
it is better to be honest and that pushing out these fantasy figures just makes it easier for the proponents of net zero and the party opposite to indulge in fantasy politics that the whole energy sector can be decarbonised in just six years?Wednesday, 29 May 2024
PARTS OF CHINA 7 DEGREES WARMER THAN TODAY FOR OVER 2 THOUSAND YEARS
For the period extending from 2700 years ago to the last few centuries the mean annual temperatures were 17.02°C. This is 7.16°C warmer than present. The mean annual precipitation was 903 mm for this Late Holocene period, which is about 70% higher than today’s.
So warmer and wetter is nothing new and also they claim it was “the best,” most “favorable,” and “optimal” climate period when compared to the drier and colder climates of recent centuries.

MET OFFICE CAUGHT OUT MAKING UP DATA
This is an amazing story that surely must make the mainstream media. It strikes me that this is the equivalent of the Post Office scandal with data being to all intents and purposes made up. The main story is here:
Met Office Creates Warming Out Of Thin Air | NOT A LOT OF PEOPLE KNOW THAT (wordpress.com)
I would encourage everyone to read the comments, as some correspondents are researching further into the location, suitability, and even the existence of some of the weather stations! In particular this one from Ray Sanders:
“Only 24 of the 380 stations used by the Met Office to calculate UK temperatures are fit for purpose,”
Well actually it is now only 23 not 24. As Paul will know ( I shared the email response from the Met Office with him) Hastings station was shown as Class 1 but I challenged that assessment and have now had it confirmed it is now registered as only Class 4!
I am currently challenging Cassley station (also shown as class 1) and have been able to confirm that the entirety of Cassley (Loch Shin) Hydro electric power station, access roads/hard standing and air cooling for the generators lie within the critical measurement zone – class 3 or even 4 is more appropriate. I also intend to challenge several others in the near future.
Now here is a separate issue that I have discovered in extensive research into dubious Met Office activities. In my home county of Kent there are currently 7 Met Office weather stations. How does that compare with years gone by? Well in 1970 (when scares of an impending ice age were the latest religion) there were …..31 simultaneously operating Met Office stations in Kent.
So why the huge reduction most of which occurred in the 70s/80s? (N.b. This level of reduction occurred nationally)
Well back then most were “manual” stations that required operators to take readings at regular intervals on site. To “improve” forecasting and data quality (ho ho ho) these were automated obviating operator visits. To achieve this the Met Office had to change the thermometers to Platinum resistance units from traditional chemical ones AND provide power and telecoms to the sites. Back then telecomms effectively meant a land line connection.
{Discussion on change to PRT’s on another day.}
As a direct result nearly all the RURAL sites were closed down as no power or telecomms was readily available. I have identified 25 closed sites since 1970 of which 18 were in rural locations. As some examples the coldest temperature ever recorded in Kent ( -21.3°C) was recorded at rural Elmstone (very close to the middle of nowhere) but this site was closed in 1994, the second coldest was at Anvil Green (I know where it is but very few would ever find it) and this was closed in 1992. Even the hottest UK January record site at rural Eynsford was closed in 2008.
So not only are many existing Met Office sites becoming increasingly affected by UHI, they have removed a huge percentage of premium quality rural sites not so affected. Phoenix44 could probably ascertain the statistical distortions this change would have better than I can.
Now hold this thought, of the 18 closed rural sites I have identified I would suggest all were Class 1. Of the remaining 7 current sites only 3 are Class 1 and 2 of those I will challenge soon as being poor sites.
But just to put the icing on the cake I have also identified that a quarter of all sites appearing on this Met Office “Climate Averages” page DO NOT EXIST at all!!! Despite the fact that latitude/longitude co-ordinates and altitude are quoted a quarter are complete FICTION and do not have a recording station within many miles. As just one example Dungeness (shown) is over 25 radial miles from the nearest recording site.
The Met Office have confirmed this and are now rapidly trying to bluff their way of it

More on this to follow soon.

p.s. forgot to add – don’t you just love it when climate averages are quoted to the second decimal place of one degree using data from sites inaccurate to 5 degrees!

CO2 IS PLANT FOOD AND HERE IS AN EXAMPLE
“Thanet Earth” is the largest greenhouse area in the UK.
“The glasshouses produce approximately 400 million tomatoes, 24 million peppers and 30 million cucumbers a year, equal to roughly 12, 11 and 8 per cent respectively of Britain’s entire annual production of those salad ingredients.”
Now consider this.
“The complex is powered by combined heat and power systems that create heat, power and carbon dioxide (which is absorbed by the plants) for the greenhouses”
They actually pump the waste CO2 into the greenhouse to improve production levels. 2,000ppm is their target figure – the plants love it, the human workers don’t notice any difference.

A WARNING TO THE ISLE OF MAN
Apparently the government of the Isle of Man is keen to reach net zero and so they are planning to change the island's electricity generating system to include large amounts of wind and solar. The linked video by Paul Burgess highlights the major problems of doing this. The same problems exist for the rest of the UK, and anywhere else for that matter.

LATEST CLIMATE STORY GETS DEBUNKED
Almost every day it seems that another apocalyptic piece of nonsense gets published by our mainstream media. In this latest offering we are told that increased global temperature will cause a decrease in the global economy. Something which sounds plausible to anyone who does not stop to think, but luckily Tony Heller points out the obvious in this short video:

PUTTING CO2 EMISSIONS IN PERSPECTIVE
People often say things like "its important for us to do our bit to save CO2 emissions by....." and then mention some small thing like reducing our meat consumption, or driving less, etc, etc. What you seldom hear is what the scale of CO2 emissions actually is. A quick search of the internet found the table below which shows the top ten countries for CO2 emissions and then lists over two hundred other countries. The UK is 17th and produces 0.8% of the world's total.
Individually our small changes will make no discernible difference whatsoever to the effect of CO2 on the weather or world temperature. Even if we went a lot further and cut out the entire emissions of the whole UK it would have no measurable effect. But the effect on our lives would be massive. The cost to the economy would mean severe cuts on government spending. We would all be affected, but the poor would suffer the most.
Top 10 Countries with the Highest CO₂ Emissions in the World (Unit: million tons CO₂) - 2020 EDGAR:*

PROOF THAT SEA LEVELS WERE HIGHER 90000 YEARS AGO
It is estimated that sea levels were globally about 6 to 9 meters higher than today during the last interglacial (~130,000 to 115,000 years ago), when CO2 supposedly peaked at 275 ppm (Sommers et al., 2022). It is currently 420 ppm, suggesting that the link between sea level and CO2 is weak.

ARE THE BANKS WAKING UP TO THE ENORMOUS COST OF NET ZERO?
It would appear that some of the world's biggest banks are now backing away from their previous policy of arguing for achieving net zero as soon as possible. This is welcome news, but it does not put them in a very good light for having shown such poor judgment in the first place. Is the bubble about to burst? I think it will be more like a gradual shift to net zero further into the future. Sometime, never. But not until a huge amount of money has been wasted.

UK ENERGY SECRETARY INTERVIEW
Following on from last Friday's piece where she wrote a rather weak response to Paul Homewood's letter, here is an interview, reported in The House magazine where she talks about her thoughts and attitudes.
It would, of course, be impossible to have an Energy Secretary who openly admitted to being a climate sceptic. It is doubtful if a climate sceptic could even be in the cabinet at all, such is the current state of hysteria over the subject of climate change. Those who speak out are almost invariably either retired or on the back benches. Climate change has reached the status of religion.

NET ZERO "WON'T BE PLEASANT" SAYS FORMER ENERGY SECRETARY
The House magazine is widely read among our MPs and it contains a lot of interesting articles on the key issues of the day. The latest edition contains a number of articles on net zero. The link below is to the one by Lord Howell, a former Tory Energy Secretary. He makes a good point, that the net zero push has only just started, but people are led to believe that we are already half way there. As he says, electricity may be currently reducing its reliance on fossil fuels, but electricity is currently less than 20% of the UK's total energy usage.
"That still leaves some 60 to 70 per cent of fossil fuel energy flows needing to be converted to clean electricity by 2050 or an earlier date. Even with optimism, that’s another three times present electricity output, or a minimum of about another 200 gigawatts (GW) on top of the present 65GW."
"An almost totally new grid system – four to five times the present capacity – will be necessary to bring greatly expanded wind-sourced electricity onshore, and connect up new nuclear sites with strings of new pylons to deliver it. We will also rely heavily on new interconnectors to bring in electricity, and gas, from neighbours at peak times." Why he thinks our neighbours will be able to spare so much electricity when they are undergoing the same major transition I have no idea.

GOVERNMENT CONTROL OF OUR HOME ENERGY IS COMING
As so-called "smart devices" are being developed which can be controlled remotely, it was inevitable that the government would be told that this was a way to reduce energy use to get to net zero. How could they resist? The link below includes a government survey, but it's not aimed at the public, it is aimed at the businesses that will be supplying the equipment. the ordinary people are being ignored. Most of us do not know anything about this. The problem for the government is they don't know how we will react. We may not be prepared to go along with it.

NET ZERO POLICY - ANSWERS FROM THE MINISTER DON'T ADD UP
Claire Coutinho is the UK Secretary of State for the Department of Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) In the link below she replies to a letter from a constituent, written by Paul Homewood. Sadly she seems to have no real answers to the serious issues that the country will be facing in the next decade. This is the unfortunate consequence of using short term governments to plan long term projects. By the time the errors become clear the people who put the policy in place have left office

ELECTRIC CAR TIME BOMB
It has become apparent for a long time that the most expensive part of an EV is the battery which has a limited life. This fact is becoming widely known and is a major factor in putting people off buying one. This has now been picked up by the major national press here in the UK, see the link below:
