THE FREE MARKET IS DEAD

Nowhere in a modern democracy is there a truly free market, because the state has (quite rightly) introduced laws to control it, such as to ensure that what is sold is safe and fit for purpose and that workers rights are upheld. However businesses still had a reasonable degree of freedom to decide things like the type of heating and insulation used in their factories and offices, or the packaging of their products. but all that is now having to change under the guise of "climate change" and "net zero".  If a product produces CO2 in its manufacture then the government will try and tax it.

So what we are seeing is that the interference is becoming so great that the market is completely distorted, which is leading to higher prices and reduced competition. See the good article in this link:

  1. The rest of Europe is also doing the same process of acheiving Net Zero. Britain pulls away from this, the rest of Europe will pressure GB economically with GB taking a hit economically.

The UK government has released plans to cut greenhouse gas emissions as part of its strategy to reach "net zero" by 2050.

The strategy, called Powering Up Britain, focuses on boosting clean energy production.

The government says it will reduce the UK's contribution to global warming, and lower electricity price, but the plans have been criticised for not going further

    What does 'net zero' mean?
Net zero means not adding to the amount of greenhouse gases (GHGs) in the atmosphere.

This involves reducing GHG emissions as much as possible, and balancing out any that remain by removing an equivalent amount.

Greenhouse gases include carbon dioxide (CO2) and methane. CO2 is released when oil, gas and coal are burned in homes, factories and to power transport. Methane is produced through farming and landfill.

These gases cause global warming by trapping the sun's energy.

Meanwhile, rapid deforestation across the world means there are fewer trees and plants to absorb CO2.

Under the 2015 Paris Agreement, 197 countries agreed to try to keep future global temperature rises "well below" 1.5C to avoid the worst impacts of climate change.

Scientists say that to achieve this, net zero must be reached by 2050.

But UN Secretary General António Guterres recently urged all countries to bring forward their net zero targets by a decade.

  2. Yes the EU is also supposed to be heading towards net zero, but there are a lot of countries that are already asking to slow down the pace of change. Even Germany is unlikely to meet its own targets, and is now in recession. Hw long can this continue? My guess is that it will soon become obvious that the 2050 target is impossible. Meanwhile Asia will carry on powering ahead of us.
