WHO ARE C40?

Below is part of an essay by Tony Lock. The whole essay is quite long and covers a lot of aspects of UK climate topics. In this passage he looks at a network of city mayors trying to force the pace and burnish their green credentials.

One of the organizations which has been driving the green agenda, particularly in London, is C40: [[15]]. C40 is an international organization, which describes itself as “A global network of mayors taking urgent action to confront the climate crisis and create a future where everyone can thrive.” C40’s mission, so they say, “is to halve the emissions of its member cities within a decade, while improving equity, building resilience, and creating the conditions for everyone, everywhere to thrive.” Moreover: “C40 member cities earn their membership through action. C40’s most distinguishing feature is that it operates on performance-based requirements, not membership fees.”

And every year, they hold a world mayors’ summit, at which they gather and gab about forcing us to reduce our emissions, for example by making us walk or cycle instead of driving our cars. But not many of them actually walk or cycle from their homes to and from the mayors’ summit, do they? What a bunch of hypocrites.

C40 has, so its website says, been in existence since 2005. I retched when I found out the name of its founder: “Red Ken” Livingstone, former mayor of London. But in retrospect, I found it hardly surprising, since I already knew the identity of its chair, the current mayor of London, Sadiq Khan. Put Boris Johnson in between them, and you have three extremist green stooges in a row as mayors of London.

Read their website and find out about the huge list of backers from around the world. Here is a link:

  1. We actually have to do better than net zero emissions. Negative emissions are actually needed to straighten out the destructive effects of atmospheric warming.

Life will actually get better with renewable energy. Health costs will decrease, employment will increase.

  2. So what is the "ideal" average temperature of our planet? In fact an average means nothing to people in any particular place. What matters to them is the actual temperature they experience. If it is cold they dress according to the conditions. If it gets too hot they turn on the air-conditioning. Whatever the weather, we have to cope with it. It is not possible to control it. The idea that we can is simply a mad fantasy.

  3. The average temperature that takes place around 280ppm co2.

We are connected to the co2 in the atmosphere or otherwise total GHGs.

This is a very clear connection that science has shown us based in evidence.

  4. At 280ppm of CO2 we would get significantly lower crop yields, which would be very bad for the poor. In many ways one or two degrees of warming would be beneficial.

  6. Heat waves kill people and make others quite sick. As the climate gets warmer the heat waves get stronger and longer. Killing more crops we depend on.

Aug 1, 2022The most serious health impacts of a heat wave are often associated with high temperatures at night, which is usually the daily minimum. 5 The human body needs to cool off at night, especially after a hot day. If the air stays too warm at night, the body faces extra strain as the heart pumps harder to try to regulate body temperature.
