“People are being asked to make financial sacrifices and changes in lifestyle when they know that their impact on global emissions is minimal,” Blair said in a foreword to a new report from his think tank released on Tuesday. What he is saying is simply acknowledging what the majority of people, as he implies, already know. What is new is that Blair feels confident enough to say this publicly. The Conservative leader, Kemi Badenoch, has said similar things. Nigel Farage was the first to say it, and the big wins for his Reform Party prove that large numbers of the public agree.
Now that these senior figures in UK politics have gone above the parapet, I can only see others following and soon it will become acceptable to voice these concerns. This is how leaving the EU gradually became acceptable.
