Ministers are drawing up plans for taxpayer-funded grants to stop gas providers from scaling back their capacity because of the Government's focus on renewables.
They are also considering proposals for new state-funded gas storage facilities to avert the threat of blackouts during periods of high demand.

The first is that climate is not the same thing as weather. It is quite wrong to say that the climate has changed because we have had two or three hot dry summers. Those are simply weather. Climate change requires there to be an increase in the number of hot dry summers over a thirty year period, when compared to a previous thirty year period.
The second is that even if there has been a change as described above, we cannot simply say that the whole of that change is due to an increase in the concentration of CO2 in the atmosphere. There is good evidence that warming may also be caused by a change in cloud cover. Or changes in the circulation of the ocean currents. There is still a lot of argument about what proportion of warming can be attributed to each component.
To argue these points is not unreasonable. It is unreasonable not to accept them. You cannot be a climate change denier if you accept that climate can and does change. The evidence must be based on sound statistics.
A year ago Donald Trump decided to reignite nuclear power research –– his goal in June 2025 was to develop three new advanced nuclear reactors and get them to reach criticality by July 4th this year for the 250th celebrations. In the end they got four across the line. One of them, created by an Australian Bobby Gallagher, was a latecomer to the race, but managed to build a new microreactor design, with some help from the US Energy Department, in an awe-inspiring 150 days.
Even though we can all feel very sorry for the fact that Jason Arday has committed suicide due to the huge adverse publicity he had over the plagiarism accusations and other achievements he claimed which were questionable, to say the least, the fact is that because Cambridge University wanted to believe him so much that they failed to carry out the necessary due diligence before appointing him. It appears that universities have their own woke agenda and Arday fitted what they wanted. Contrast this behaviour with the attitude towards scientists who challenge the prevailing orthodoxy. People like Henrik Svensmark from yesterday's post, or Peter Ridd who questioned the state of the Great Barrier Reef. There have been many others.

A senior university scientist who has spent decades studying the formation of clouds from solar radiation has been fired. Apparently there is no interest in looking at any cause of global warming other than CO2. This one track approach is not how science should be carried out. Science can only truly develop by studying all possible effects.
I wonder why there is so little attention paid to research into the effect of changes in cloud cover. It seems an obvious thing to be checked, but it seems the politics has come down on one answer which is CO2 increase and nothing else is allowed to blur the picture.
When the data comes up with the "wrong" answer the UK Met Office simply ignores it, as evidenced by their latest Annual Climate Report. Luckily eagle-eyed sceptics have spotted this, as the article below explains.
This excellent article gives us the statistics that are kept hidden from us by those pushing the climate change agenda. What they show is that, although it has undoubtedly been above average it is still within the range that we can expect in terms of temperature and rainfall.

Some cities are sinking, not merely twice as fast, but six times faster than the seas are rising. Ponder that a thousand tide gauges around the world showed seas are only rising at about 1mm a year. (Beenstock). In a funny coincidence the original raw satellite data in the 1990s showed a 1mm rise. Then it got adjusted up to 3mm using one sinking gauge in HongKong. In this thought-provoking article the similarities between the pronouncements of Fauci, the Covid "expert", and those of Mann, the Hockey-stick guy are documented. In both cases the people have been told falsehoods.
The more one looks at the way the UK Met Office runs its weather stations the more poor practice is uncovered. The article in the link below is a classic case in point. There is no doubt that the network of weather stations is a very amateurish effort which is completely inadequate for the task of studying the climate, upon which the whole basis for very costly policy intervention depends.

In his latest podcast Ray update us on his project to look at all the UK weather stations and see which are the good ones. With over 300 to cover it is a huge undertaking and I admire his determination and energy. He deserves a medal, but instead he gets completely frustrated by the UK Met Office who regard him as vexatious.
I don't recall this news being broadcast on the news. It is nevertheless a significant development, indicating that they are not willing to sacrifice growth in order to cut CO2 emissions, and who can blame them. In the end we must all admit that we do not control the climate and so we will have to adapt instead.
I think you will find this a very interesting discussion between Lord Frost and Tim Stanley, who is a writer with the Daily Telegraph. The teleprompter is a bit annoying as it types out every stutter and repetition, but the argument which is about whether we should adapt to any extremes of weather, or just accept the need to transition away from fossil fuels was well made by Lord Frost. Stanley made a good effort, but his argument was not able to withstand the logic of Frost.
