The government would have us believe that achieving net zero can be done without causing major problems. As we see the reality, I doubt that many will believe this in future. Not only will thousands of jobs be lost, but the UK will no longer be able to make new steel. Instead we will have to import it from countries which are likely to emit just as much CO2 as we would have done had we made it ourselves. So the planet saves zero CO2, but the UK can claim to be nearer to net zero.
