You might think that accountancy was about financial matters, such as reporting profits to the revenue department. Today it has gone way beyond that. Companies have to report on all manner of things other than finance. Now CO2 emissions have been added to put up the cost of business, which will end up being passed on to all of us as customers. It's not only business. Here in the UK local councils are also having to collate information about CO2 emissions, employing full-time staff to do it. It all adds to the cost and hence our taxes, though it makes no difference to the total CO2 in the atmosphere as the amounts are insignificant (and of course no difference to the weather or climate).
