British Prime Minster Gordon Brown's Chancellor, Alistair Darling, has shown in his latest budget the reality of his government's commitment to reduce CO2, which is they will pay lip-service to it but nothing more. (Thank goodness!) Targets set for 2050 are a lot lower down the agenda than keeping the economy going. It seems highly unlikely to me that any government that has to be re-elected will put in place the drastic measures needed to cut CO2. That is not to say that what they do do is not going to cause considerable pain anyway.
