China is building scores of highly advanced ultra-supercritical coal plants. Last year the country ramped up construction of new coal plants, adding a gargantuan 78GW of new capacity. They added more new plants in a single year than they have any year since 2007.
This feat was three times Australia’s entire coal fleet. China is adding as much coal power as our national grid has every four months. And these are hot new efficient machines, while we torture ourselves about how fast we can close ours down.
