I would not normally read such garbage through to the end, but occasionally it is useful to see if there is any merit in the opposing view, and having read it, it is clear there is not one piece of scientific information in the whole article, not a shred, and yet the author suggests that those with a different view should be persecuted. 

UN AIMS REVEALED IN LATEST REPORT

I suppose many of us are already aware that the agenda behind the climate change front are much more far-reaching than simply reducing CO2 emissions and every now and then the truth is revealed, though curiously it never seems to make headlines in the mainstream news. In fact the true agenda is so far-fetched that it seems completely unbelievable, which is very convenient. However here is an article with links to the actual UN report which seems to make it absolutely clear. Whether the world's governments will sign up to it is not clear, though if they did I doubt if they would admit to it to their people. What tends to happen is that these sort of proposals are brought in by stealth bit by bit in the hope that people will not notice - which is what is happening now with stealth taxes on CO2 and "green" energy subsidies.

GREEN DEAL - A BAD DEAL?

This article from Conservative Home looks at the government's Green Deal and finds it full of problems. Here is an extract: "Liberal-controlled Sutton Council, in Surrey, was provided with generous government funding to carry out a trial scheme. Of the 400 householders applying to take part in the project, only 67 finally went ahead; the average spend per home was £13,000. Home owners who opted to pay back their loans in 10 years found that their repayments actually exceeded their prospective cut in energy bills by some £256 a year – so their notional energy savings were completely wiped out. This was despite the fact that, to encourage take up, Sutton Council provided 40% of the cost of the works through a non-repayable grant, and made the rest available on an interest free loan." It looks as though the average voter may feel a bit fed up when he discovers how much coercion the government is now about to use on him/her.

MORE REGULATION TO FORCE US TO GO GREEN

It was always obvious that there was no way that the public would implement all the requirements to our homes that the government would need in order to meet its pledge to reduce the nations CO2 emissions by the target it had set. In fact it is pretty clear that there is no way it can meet its target at all. The whole project is doomed from the start, but that isn't going to stop them from introducing some increasingly draconian measures to try to force compliance as Christopher booker points out. CLIMATE RECORDS IN STALACTITES

Here is an interesting piece showing how a scientist has found a way of extracting past climate data from stalactites and stalagmites. He claims the results show that natural variability of the climate has been much larger than claimed by the IPCC and the hockey-stick scientists.

UK GOVERNMENT PLANS TO FORCE HOUSEHOLDERS TO GO GREEN

This article in the Mail gives a snapshot of the government's plan to compel householders to carry out insulation work to the latest standards in order to be able to carry out any improvements to the property, even replacing a boiler! (Even though a new boiler itself would save energy) These plans are apparently out for consultation, so let's hope that common sense will prevail, otherwise a whole new black market will be created.

TAMPERING WITH THE TEMPERATURE RECORD

This article demonstrates how just a few small alterations can make a big difference to the look of a graphic representation of the temperature anomaly record. The point is that the anomalies are so small to begin with. Scientists who have so publicly proclaimed that we are facing alarming temperature rises seem to be up to any trick to prove that their claims are justified. They must be held to account for making these alterations to the record, and not allowed to get away with it.

WORLD'S BIGGEST WIND FARM PROPOSED FOR UK SOUTH COAST

Here is the report in the Telegraph, complete with the astonishing subsidy figures.This proposal is right in my back-yard. I'm sure the full cost of these wind farms is not being given to the public, but the eye-watering cost of the subsidy is real enough and we will all be paying for it in higher energy bills whether we like the look of it or not.

PATIENT TOLD TO FIND NEW DOCTOR TO REDUCE HER CARBON FOOTPRINT

Here is the article on the Telegraph. It sounds as though the GPs were using this as an excuse to get rid of a patient, but it just shows how climate alarmism can be used as an easy excuse. No doubt the doctors thought that this was legitimate enough not to cause a challenge. By the look of the comments on it they have misjudged the public mood.

COURSES FOR ECO POETS

This article looks at new courses for children to make up "eco poetry" and for older students to take up writing about climate to distribute the message about the dangers of climate change. It all points to an insidious infiltration into mainstream education of this climate propaganda.

BIG BROTHER GETS A STEP CLOSER

Here is an article which should disturb all those who cherish our freedom to speak or write our thoughts. Much of the article relates to Australia which many people see as a relaxed place where people's freedom is secure. The plain fact is that authoritarianism is only a short step away. In fact when I read that the Australian press inquiry report suggests controlling any website with more than 41 hits per day, I realised that this blog is under threat as it gets around 200, which is tiny in comparison to the big boys which get many thousands. It seems unbelievable that they could even think of controlling the internet in this way. I doubt whether they would succeed, though even suggesting it is worrying for the future of free speech.

According to this paper the errors in producing the figures for the world temperature anomaly are bigger than the anomaly itself. In other words the figures are meaningless. You have to congratulate the rulers of Pacific island states on their far-sightedness. Here is a good example. Even though the scientific evidence shows that they have so far been unaffected by sea level rise, these island rulers are preparing to evacuate their citizens. Climate alarm is based on the hypothesis of global warming which relies on greenhouse gas theory. This article examines in detail the science of greenhouse gases (GHG). The scientists examining this came to the conclusion that GHG theory does not make scientific sense. this is a controversial conclusion. UK GIVES AROUND £1.5 BILLION IN "CLIMATE AID"

Christopher Booker in today's column in the Sunday Telegraph highlights the huge sum being spent by the government in its "overseas aid" programme to help to "fight climate change". No longer does the government regard aid as a means of alleviating poverty and disease, as you will see when you read the article. This is apart from the money given directly to fight climate change. As Booker says, the UK government seems strangely obsessed with this objective, despite its enormous national debt and a flat-lining economy.

BRITISH GAS BLAMES GREEN TAXES FOR PRICE RISE

British Gas has come out publicly and blamed the government's green taxes for the steep increase in gas and electricity bills according to this report in the Sun newspaper. They join a growing band of prominent businesses and organisations to question the government's green energy policy. The consensus seems to be shifting away from renewables at any price toa much more pragmatic one of considering the economy as well.

Professor Richard Lindzen is a heavyweight in the global warming debate. He has a record of achievement which means he cannot be ignored. This week he came to Westminster to give a lecture. QUESTIONS TO COMPUTER CLIMATE MODELERS

Below is a very interesting comment by a senior Canadian climate scientist on how computer climate models should be tested.

"1. Why DO climate models have NO error bars (confidence intervals, say 95%) based on real observations?

2. I know the UK met office answer, that is: We have to just wait till say 2050 or 2100 to verify that "our models are right!"

3. NO that is NOT true! Let me explain;

The UK Met office and other climate modeling centres can do the following experiment:

Let them take their BEST AVAILABLE MODEL TODAY and let it be started in a PURE FORECAST MODE from about say 1950 or 1975.

yes it can be done! I did it for ocean wave models while at Env Canada , we call it a hindcast mode.

Let the UK met office run their best climate models from say 1950 till say 2010 (again in a purely fcst mode, NO adjustment of any kind) and then obtain fcst products say mean temp trends for five continents and three ocean basins and then do some error analysis using observed mean temp trend for five continents and three ocean basins for say 2010, 2011 and 2012.

Using these error stats, let them then obtain error bars for their fcst for 2050 and beyond.

My hunch is: the error bars will look like this:

For 2050: mean temp increase: 2C +/- 10C

For 2100; Mean temp incerase 3C +/- 15C ( something like these)

So you see these mean temp increase will be OF NO USE FOR ANY CLIMATE POLICY! Such fcsts will be TOTALLY USELESS! (right now all climate models give error bars based on so many climate model outputs, that is they compare model to model NOT model to real observations!)

Kindly allow me to give my personal experience:

Two years ago I gave a seminar on the GW science at York University here in Toronto. My seminar was arranged by my former good friend at Env Canada (Kaz Higuchi a good scientist and now on the Editorial Board of the Journal "Theoretical & Applied Climatology") and I gave a talk for over 40 minutes and during Q&A session, I said that "it would be useful for climate modelers to do this experiment and obtain error bars based on observed data"

Kaz told me that "the Canadian climate modelers DID EXACTLY THAT some few years ago and obtained such wide error bars they NEVER BOTHERED TO PUBLISH THOSE RESULTS!"

That is the problem with all climate models!

These modelers CAN do the experiment I suggest above BUT will NOT do it!"

Update:
I have just been told that in Chapter 8 of IPCC Report AR4, 2007 section
8.1.2.2 "Metrics of Model Reliability" it says:
What does the accuracy of a climate model's simulation
of past or contemporary climate say about the accuracy of its projections of climate change? This question is just beginning to be addressed, exploiting the newly available ensembles of models."
Did you get that? "This question is just beginning to be addressed"! So now we know!

ASK THE EXPERT

The Met Office were invited to answer questions from the public on any climate or weather related topics, so I gave them a question - see here for the question followed by their answer. Unfortunately there was no opportunity for a follow-up question, but some colleagues have made the following observations :- "From what I can see,
there's now so many climate models, each being
tweaked and run with different scenarios, that
the range of outputs is so broad that they
encompass the entire spectrum of possibilities.


Also being "consistent with" is not much better
than implying that correlation shows
causation. "Consistent with" suggests just one
explanation, which doesn't sit very well with the
IPCC 4AR table 2.11 (WGI, chapter 2, page 201) in
which the level of scientific understanding of 13
of the 16 listed forces is shown as on the "poor"
side of medium. To put that another way, if
science doesn't understand a bunch of natural
forces then it's deceitful not to say that
perhaps these forces account for some or all of the observed variation."

What it shows is that once you become dependant on government money for your survival then you lose your independence, and ultimately the respect you once had for impartiality. Climate alarmists often talk about the way "big oil" is buying opposition to the global warming bandwaggon, though this myth is evident from the fact that oil companies gain to profit massively from renewables as well as oil; however what is clear is that institutions like the Royal Society are now completely under the patronage and power of big government in a way that never happened under royalty.

MET OFFICE GLOBAL TEMPERATURE FORECASTS TOO WARM IN 11 OUT LAST 12 YEARS

That is according to this report by the BBC, no less! Of course the temperature change from year to year is minute and so the errors are only small, but the fact that they are virtually all on the warm side tells you something - that they are biased towards fulfilling their own prophecy.

CLOUD HEIGHT FOUND TO BE REDUCING IN NEW STUDY

This study indicates there may be a negative feedback to global warming. The lower level clouds will act to reflect more radiation and so counter-act any global warming due to increased CO2.

UK EMISSIONS INCREASE BY 3% IN 2010

This article gives the details of the increase in CO2 emissions due partly to the cold winter, as well as a partial revival of industry from the recession.

TOP GERMAN ENVIRONMENTALIST TURNS SCEPTIC

CANADIAN SENATE HEARS SCEPTIC CASE ON GW

This article from WUWT has a link to the hearing. It is 2 hours long, but if you have the time it gives an interesting look at what goes on at such things. I found it interesting that several of the Senators were quite open-minded, or even of a sceptical nature. The scientists were trying to put a scientific case to unscientific politicians, and some succeeded better than others. It is time we did something similar here in the UK.

UK DASH FOR UCG

We have looked at shale gas several times in recent months, but here's another new technology that could keep our energy costs down, if only the government would realise that reducing CO2 emissions is now unnecessary. This one is called Underground Coal Gasification. The link is to a Channel 4 News article from Jan 4. In it you will see that already 18 licenses have been granted by the government to set up UCG plants. There is an interview after the film with two scientists - one working in the new technology and the other a committed climate alarmist. Despite the first scientist claiming that he was working to capture all the CO2 emitted, the alarmist still wanted the technology stopped as he feared it would be used in India and China without CO2 capture. He claimed that we would have global warming of 5 or 6 degrees C (though I can't recall when by!)

What we never hear is any scientist saying that emitting CO2 is no longer a problem. That would be a step too far, even though many of them think it and say so privately.

MANN'S HOCKEY STICK DEMOLISHED BY LEAKED EMAIL

This article highlights one of the newly leaked emails from the East Anglia Climate Research Unit. It is from an expert in dendrochronology, in other words tree-rings. He basically says that the temperature reconstruction made by Michael Mann and others is complete nonsense.

That seems to be at the heart of the government's chief advisor's new energy pathway tool, according to this report. However this is still an interesting contribution with many truths in it.

BBC BETRAYAL ON CLIMATE - A NEW REPORT

This article in the Daily Mail sets out the evidence, which all those who see the BBC's climate change output are well aware of. It came to a head with the recent showing of the last episode of David Attenborough's accalimed series Frozen Planet. Sadly, those who saw it will have seen a one-sided look at the evidence for a catastrophic warming of the planet with no mention of any evidence that contradicts the so-called 'consensus' narrative. One small example was the melting of sea ice where no reference was made to the fact that this will have no effect on sea level - something that many viewers will be unaware. No mention either of the fact that the Antarctic has been gaining ice in recent years, leaving the total mass of ice on our planet more or less unchanged. No mention of the fact that the Arctic has in the recent past had several periods when it has warmed and lost ice, only to revert to regain it again. I fear Mr Attenborough has bowed to pressure and resorted to propaganda instead of balance. What a shame.

ONLY 3% OF CO2 RELEASED INTO THE ATMOSPHERE IS MAN MADE

Many people are unaware of the very small proportion of CO2 emitted by mankind. To prove that this is a well-founded claim here is the proof from none other than the IPCC itself ( I know, they can't be trusted!)but if you are trying to convince a warmist it should be good enough. When you look at the diagram in the link you can add up all the amounts in the 'up' arrows (all amounts are in gigatons), the total is 215. The fact that the UK emits less than 2% of this 3% and you are getting to some pretty small amounts. As Michael Cain might have said "not a lot of people know that."

ONE SMALL STEP

This may be the only time any council has, at a full council meeting debated the government's climate change policy and, if so, it was an interesting result. At its meeting on Monday 24 October, the New Forest District Council passed the following motion by the overwhelming majority of 47 votes to 5. I have issued a press release which is on the GWPF website.

I am sure that this result reflects the views of ordinary people all over the country who are acquainted with the facts. The vote was completely free of any whip, though interestingly the 5 who opposed the motion were all Liberal Democrats.

The problem in a nutshell, appears to be that the EPA did not subject the report into the danger of CO2 to sufficient peer review. COUNCIL MOTION PASSED BY ENVIRONMENT PANEL

I am delighted to report that my motion to the New Forest District Council was passed today by the council's Environment Overview and Scrutiny Panel. The motion was:

"It is widely known that energy bills have been rising at rates well above inflation in the past few years and that this is already adversely affecting businesses and causing financial hardship to many people throughout the country on low incomes, including residents of this district.

"In light of this I propose that the Council should write to the government, urging it not to make commitments to reduce carbon dioxide emissions further or faster than other major industrial nations, as such a unilateral commitment would add further increases to UK energy prices causing increasing hardship."

I am not claiming that this will make the government change tack, but it is a small step and it is small steps that may dent the political consensus here. I was pleasantly surprised by the size of the majority which was seven votes in favour with just one against and one abstention. The motion will now come back to the full council for approval. I will let readers know the final outcome in due course.

NEW SURVEY - BRITONS THE MOST SCEPTICAL ON GW

Here is a link to the results of the new survey. It is both surprising and heartening to find that UK citizens are more sceptical of the CO2 global warming hypothesis. Surprising because there is virtually no political opposition here to the government's climate change agenda, and we are subjected to relentless propaganda from the BBC and ITV as well as most radio stations and much of the press. The weather here has not helped the suggestion of 'warming' with yet another below average summer, so maybe that, combined with the last three colder winters is enough to cause doubt. What this does show is just how fragile public opinion is on this.
