METHANE IS IRRELEVANT TO GLOBAL WARMING - SCIENTIFIC PAPER PROVES IT

The next big change that governments are already trying to bring in is to drastically reduce the number of livestock on our farms under the pretext of the false claim that these animals are causing global warming due to their farts emitting methane. This is going to be devastating and will have no effect according to the latest scientific research, which is being ignored. 

Below is a link to an excellent lecture hosted by the Irish Climate Science Foundation on Sept 21, 2022. In the lecture Dr Sheahen focuses on the work of Professors Will Happer and William van Wijngaarden in their pioneering work in calculating the real-world Global Warming Potentials (GWPs) of the five most common Green-House Gases (GHGs). He emphasizes how their calculations have now been precisely verified by satellite measurements, thus validating their research. These results verify the actual low GWPs of these GHGs, and, in particular, of the irrelevance of the impact of Methane on climate. The results have profound implications, particularly for agriculturally based economies like those of Ireland and New Zealand. He will conclude that there is no scientific basis for regressive agricultural policy; on the contrary, global food scarcity should dictate its further development. Here is the link:

EXTREME WEATHER IS NOT GETTING WORSE

• There was a marked decline in hurricane frequency during the 1970s and 80s, partly due to natural variability (AMO*) and maybe also due to reduced pollution.

MARK STEYN LOSES HIS CASE AGAINST MANN

This is a sad day for freedom of speech and also a bad day for justice.

The Hockey Stick graph has been thoroughly debunked and yet a Washington DC jury chose to find in favour of Mann. We will have to wait and see what happens next.

ARE BIG OIL COMPANIES LEARNING THAT OIL AND GAS MAKE MORE MONEY THAN RENEWABLES?

It would appear that despite all the hype over renewables, there is still a big future for the traditional fossil fuels. Shareholders have had enough and expect companies to boost their profits instead of moving into a risky new market. Of course these companies will not make money by operating in countries with a hostile tax regime and unreliable, expensive electricity.

MANN V STEYN COMING TO AN END

 Some call this the Trial of the Century, yet it has received no publicity in the mainstream media here in the UK. What is at stake is the right to freedom of speech, but also the validity of the much lauded Hockey Stick graph which denied the existence of the Little Ice Age and the Medieval Warm Period. Aside from these important items there is also the character of the climate scientist, Mann, which has come under the spotlight throughout the trial. CLIMATE CHANGE LINK TO MODERN SLAVERY

 That is what I was told in an email sent to me recently. It seems such a ridiculous idea that I read the accompanying blurb to see how they made the connection and who was behind this. Who turned out to be Nottingham University Geography Department along with Nottingham Rights Lab. Here is a brief piece from their press release:

"Changing environmental conditions and slow onset events, such as drought, and rapid-onset events , such as earthquakes, can cause long-term displacement or long-term migration, which can heighten the risk of vulnerabilities that could be exploited."

Clearly people are made more vulnerable when faced with crises like these, but since when were earthquakes caused by the climate? Migration is definitely on the increase, but this is being fueled by many factors much more powerful than a change in climate. War must be by far the biggest, and then there is the fact that the world is so much more connected by the internet and mobile phones. Most migrants simply want a better life and who can blame them for that? Linking this with climate change looks like a way to increase publicity.

NAMING HEATWAVES - THE LATEST GIMMICK FROM MPs

Those who are pushing the climate agenda are always looking for new ways to try and convince a sceptical public that the weather is getting much more extreme. So they are now suggesting that spells of hot weather should be given names to make them stand out more. They will probably try and find the scariest names they can find. I can't wait to see the choices!

The problem with all this, as I explained earlier, is that there is only a certain amount of green electricity to go round, so all this virtue-signalling comes at a price. Companies like Amazon who use vast amounts of electricity for their computers are naturally keen to grow and so consume more and more electricity, thus depriving the home-owners and small businesses of their share. Of course many of them are not bothered whether their electricity is green or not. What we are all discovering is that our electricity is getting more and more expensive, and that is a concern to all of us.

WHY WOULD THE MET OFFICE HIDE GOOD NEWS ABOUT INCREASED SUNSHINE?

 According to the Met Office, UK mean temperatures have been on the rise since about 1980. But during the exact same period sunshine hours have also been steadily rising. In a paper they published in 2006, the Met Office admitted there was not just a connection, but temperatures and sunshine were in fact strongly correlated. The paper, Climate Memorandum No 21, was an analysis of all climate trends. It has since disappeared from the Met Office website, but is fortunately still saved on Wayback:

It seems strange that the Met Office would remove a scientific paper from their website which is so important and relevant to one of the most contentious issues facing us today, except that it does not fit with the prevailing theme which is that CO2 is responsible for all the warming. Hiding evidence that does not support this contention is dishonest and begs the question - what else may be being hidden from us ?

DID FIGUERES REALLY SAY THIS?

The link below reveals a statement made by Christiana Figueres, executive secretary of U.N.'s Framework Convention on Climate Change which makes sense when you realise the very damaging effect of the policy of net zero. What is surprising is that she feels so emboldened that she would make such a statement publicly. The fact that she did should be a wake up call for those who have, so far, been convinced that net zero is all about "saving the planet from a climate emergency."

THE "TRIAL OF THE CENTURY"

The title of this post refers to the case of Michael Mann, the scientist who produced the infamous Hockey-stick graph which denied the existence of the Medieval Warm Period, Little Ice Age, etc. and Mark Steyn, a journalist who 12 years ago wrote an article in which he basically said that Mann's graph was fraudulent in the strongest of terms, whence Mann sued Steyn for defamation. On the surface it seems that Mark has coped really well with all the pressure that he must be under. I gather he is representing himself in court, which is a very brave thing to do, although it should save him considerable costs and he is a very witty and confident speaker. 

Mann has already sued another person for defaming him, scientist Tim Ball, and lost! Sadly Tim Ball has died and Mann has disobeyed the court by failing to pay Ball's costs. This time I hope to see Mann get what he deserves. It will be interesting to see if the case gets any major publicity here in the UK.

Here is an astonishing finding which brings home to us all just how foolish our governing establishment is. The decision to go to net zero carbon dioxide emissions was taken on the strength of just one year's climate data. It is now clear that Parliament authorised Net Zero without any proper assessment. The public have been grossly misled, but where is the media scrutiny. There is no debate, no open discussion of what is going on. I suspect the government will wait until there is strong push-back from the public, as has happened in Europe.

NET ZERO CLAIMS THOUSANDS OF JOBS

The government would have us believe that achieving net zero can be done without causing major problems. As we see the reality, I doubt that many will believe this in future. Not only will thousands of jobs be lost, but the UK will no longer be able to make new steel. Instead we will have to import it from countries which are likely to emit just as much CO2 as we would have done had we made it ourselves. So the planet saves zero CO2, but the UK can claim to be nearer to net zero.

"HOTTEST YEAR ON RECORD" CLAIMS EXAMINED IN DETAIL

This article shows the actual data that was used to make the claim of the "hottest year ever". When you look at it you realise just how insignificant this claim actually is. We are led to believe that the world is warming as one and that this is a relentless process, but in reality the world is divided into a number of regions which are all warming at quite different rates. The difference between 2023 and the second hottest average year which was 2016 is only 0.15 degrees C.

HERE IS WHAT THE IPCC TELL US ABOUT EXTREME WEATHER

When the TV news tell us that extreme weather is getting much worse due to "climate change" or "global warming", most people may think "it must be true", even though they don't feel it themselves. DRAX POWER STATION - A MODERN TALE OF WASTE AND FOOLISHNESS

The drive to reduce emissions of CO2 is now causing extraordinary decisions to be made. One glaring example is in the use of biomass to replace coal in the Drax power station in Yorkshire. These costs are inevitably driving up the price of our electricity, and hence the cost of almost everything we produce here in the UK. Finally let's remember that the whole of the UK is alleged to produce less than 1% of the world's emissions, meaning that these huge costs are having no effect on either the temperature or the climate of the world.

WIND SUBSIDIES HIT A NEW HIGH

Some people think that wind turbines will produce cheap electricity, but as the article below shows, this is simply wishful thinking on a grand scale. In fact because of subsidies, wind farms rake in the money whether the wind blows or not; their price is guaranteed. It is reliable back-up generators, such as gas and nuclear, which have to pay for this market volatility, and in turn pass this cost on to the consumer, causing us to have expensive and less reliable electricity.

NOBEL PRIZE-WINNING SCIENTIST EXPLAINS WHY THERE IS NO CLIMATE CRISIS

 John Clauser is a retired experimental and theoretical physicist who received the Nobel Prize in physics in 2022 for his work in Quantum Mechanics. 

On June 26, Clauser stated, “I don’t believe there is a climate crisis.” Clauser went on to amplify his view in a lecture on November 14, 2023 by stating “The planet is not imperiled.” He recognizes the work of Will Happer, Arthur Robinson, Willie Soon, Fred Singer, Richard Lindzen, Judith Curry, and many others. He also cited the work of a growing list of advocacy groups including the Heartland Institute, the Non-Governmental International Panel on Climate Change, Access to Energy, the CO2 Coalition, Doctors for Disaster Preparedness, and Clintel’s World Climate Declaration.

As with Atomic, Molcular and Optical (AMO) physicists William van Wijngaarden and William Happer, Clauser recognizes that clouds – which no one understands – are a critical part of the puzzle of Earth’s climate change. It is foolish to ignore this lack of understanding. According to Clauser, the cloud-sunlight relationship stabilizes Earth’s temperatures and is dominant over CO2. Clouds are highly variable and reflect up to 90% of the sunlight hitting them, while oceans reflect only about 20%. Overall, our planet reflects about 30% of the sunlight out into space. Clauser asks, “What does the earth look like when viewed from space in sunlight? Negligible ice is evident in near-equatorial satellite views (areas that the sun typically illuminates). Painting rooftops white is a waste. Clouds cover 60% to 65% of the land and about 70% of the oceans. Clauser then explores how his cloud-sunlight-reflectivity thermostat mechanism works. He compares his views with those of the UN International Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) [and equally to its followers such as NOAA and the National Science Foundation which finance the US global modeling efforts at Princeton and the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR)].

Even though the IPCC shows a heat balance diagram for all skies, its numbers are for clear skies, but not for overcast skies. This is deceptive. Further, according to Clauser, NOAA has demonstrated dishonesty on climate, extreme weather events, particularly in the work of NOAA administrator Jane Lubchenco and Tom Karl who provide “An important example of what I call a government-sponsored technical con.” He cites former DOE Under Secretary for Science Steve Koonin’s book Unsettled? What Climate Science Tells Us, What It Doesn’t, and Why It Matters in giving examples how NOAA has doctored data to make claims of increasing extreme weather events. One example is EF3+ data suddenly disappeared from NOAA’S Weather and Climate Extremes Index, presumably because these devastating tornadoes are declining. EF is the extended Fujitsu scale for grading tornadoes, where level 3 or higher is considered severe.

Clauser concludes by saying that something is seriously missing in the physics reported by the IPCC (and now in the physics reported by the US National Climate Assessment, which is composed of 14 agencies, including the National Science Foundation). The real issue is an energy shortage, not an excessive use of fossil fuels.

COULD THE WORLD BE ABOUT TO COOL?

Science is never settled. New discoveries have often changed our ideas completely so we must always keep an open mind. This new, longer video from Paul Burgess raises some interesting points:

DO YOU THINK WE SHOULD PAY TO PARK AT WORK?

 Yes, that is another restriction that the Climate Inquisition have in mind for us! 

Does the council have a workplace parking levy? This is one of the 90 questions used by Climate Emergency UK to "mark" councils on their ambition to achieve net zero. I doubt it would be very popular among the thousands of hard-working constituents in their authority area. No authority has introduced such a levy yet, for obvious reasons. 

SHOULD WE DRIVE BELOW 20MPH TO GET TO NET ZERO?

 Following on from the last post, another question which councils are being asked is:

Is the council committed to making 20mph the standard speed limit for most restricted roads?

This question tells us just how restrictive these people want councils to be. I just wonder how many votes a candidate would get if they put a pledge to bring in 20mph limits in their election leaflet. Clearly this is the hidden agenda behind Climate Emergency UK. These limits are already being introduced in Wales by the Welsh Labour Government, so it is not far-fetched to believe it could be coming here soon.  

THE CLIMATE INQUISITION IS HERE

 Have you heard of Climate Emergency UK? They are a little known group of self-appointed inquisitors whose aim is to try and bully local councils into doing more to reach the mythical net zero. They have devised a set of about 91 questions to keep local councils tied up responding to them through using the Freedom of Information rules. Although many of the questions are reasonable, some are stretching the boundaries between normal council activity and outright activism. Here is a small sample of the latter with my comments in red:

Does the council include a policy in the Local Plan to create 15/20 minute neighbourhoods? These are controversial as they involve restricting the free movement of motor vehicles and have caused a lot of opposition where they have been proposed.

Has the Council approved a planning application for a carbon intensive energy system to be built or expanded from 2019? Presumably this would include any industry that required use of fossil fuels and so bring employment to the area. This is a political decision where a balanced approach is required.

Has the council's area wide carbon emissions decreased, according to UK Government data? This is beyond the powers of the local council. 

Has the council adopted a new governance or decision making process to put tackling the climate emergency at the heart of every council decision made? They seem to imply that net zero should come before any other policy. That is not necessarily what the majority of people voted for. 

What percentage of the council's overall staff work on implementing their Climate Action Plan or other climate change projects? This question implies that councils should increase their workforce, ignoring the fact that they could be more efficient.

 

Have all senior management and councillors in the cabinet or committee chairs received climate awareness training? This assumes that they all agree with the premise that net zero is a sensible policy.

Has the council passed a motion in support of divestment from all fossil fuels from the councils' pension funds? This could interfere with the first priority of a pension fund to invest in the most profitable companies. 

Has the council lobbied the government for climate action? It is not the job of local government to lobby the government.

Is the council working with external partners or other councils to seek to influence national governments on climate action, or to learn about and share best practice on council climate action? See previous answer.

Is the council working in partnership with schools or other education settings to deliver climate action that young people can engage with? Young people should be presented with balanced information when learning about controversial political matters.

Has the council passed a motion to ban high carbon advertising and sponsorship? Councils should not be interfering in the free market economy.

Do schools in the council area serve less meat in school meals? It should not be the job of the council to interfere in the diet of children or adults.

Has the council removed minimum parking requirements for new residential homes across their area? This would simply lead to more on-street parking which would be very unpopular.

 

UK GOVERNMENT SPLIT OVER NET ZERO

As the deprivation caused by the net zero policy draws ever closer splits within the governing Conservative government are emerging with the minister for climate change resigning over the sensible policy of keeping the North Sea oil and gas industry going with new licenses being issued to drill. Those more sensible members of the government realise that living without any home-produced oil and gas is simply stupid. However some ministers seem to believe completely that there really is a climate emergency and that the UK can actually do something about it.

Every minister should read the book Not Zero by Ross Clarke to take them back to reality. I am currently re-reading after lending it to a friend. I will be putting up a few highlights from the book in the coming days.

Extreme cold weather has hit parts of Sweden, Finland and Norway, and snow storms in Denmark have left drivers trapped on a motorway near Aarhus since Wednesday.

The Kvikkjokk-Arrenjarka weather station in northern Sweden recorded its coldest night for 25 years on Tuesday night, with temperatures dropping to -43.6C.

I know it's only weather, but it does not seem to be mentioned on the main TV news, so for "balance" I am mentioning it here.

THE NET ZERO ACCOUNTING TRICK

 As most of us are beginning to realise, getting to net zero is going to be very difficult (or more likely not possible at all), so the government will need to use tricky accounting in order to give an impression of success. One way of doing this is by excluding the emissions created by products manufactured overseas. They also exclude emissions from shipping and aviation. 

By increasing taxes and levies on the CO2 emitted by UK businesses the government is driving them out and making their products more expensive than those from overseas. We are exporting our emissions and our jobs. but this all makes our CO2 emissions look as though they are falling more quickly.  

Just to take one example the cost of electricity in the UK, according to UK steel was £46.60 per MWh in 2020/21, whereas even in Germany it was only £25, and £28.74 in France. We now import 61% of our steel.

Subsidies, or grants, have always been an important part of

As the cost of achieving net zero becomes ever more 

expensive these subsidies will need to keep increasing as 

councils try to keep balancing their budgets while cost 

pressures in other vital areas keep increasing. For example, 

we are currently experiencing a housing crisis and desperately need more council homes. How will the money be found to build them if the housing budget has to be spent on achieving net zero?

BRITAIN'S POINTLESS NET ZERO DISASTER

Rupert Darwall has written some very good essays in the press about the impending disaster from the net zero policy. This one contains some very stark stark figures which should give us all cause for concern. Here is one nugget:

The Climate Change Act was passed to show Britain’s climate leadership and inspire the rest of the world to follow its example. How did that work out? In the 11 years that transpired from passing the Act to legislating net zero in 2019, Britain’s fossil fuel emissions fell by 180 million metric tons – a 33% reduction. Over the same period, the rest of the world’s emissions increased by 5,177 million metric tons – a rise of 16%. Put another way, 11 years of British emissions reduction were wiped out in around 140 days by increased emissions from the rest of the world.

MIXING UP CLIMATE AND WEATHER AGAIN

If plants and animals were so poor at coping with year to year changes in the seasons, then I would have to ask the obvious question which is how have they all survived for the past hundreds of thousands of years? Are they really saying that they know what the variation in the seasons was from one year to the next thousands of years ago? Of course they don't. We all know that there can be tremendous changes from one year to the next, and that this can lead to some species being severely hit in certain places, but they can also recover in another year when conditions are more favourable.

GLACIERS DON'T LIE, UNLIKE ALARMIST SCIENTISTS

 In the video below, you can see how the so-called Hockey-Stick Graph constructed by Michael Mann does not stand up to scrutiny when compared with what actually happened to natural temperature indicators, like glaciers. Its credibility just melts away like ice should in a warming world.

PEOPLE DON'T BUY THE GOVERNMENT PROPAGANDA ON HEAT PUMPS

Richard North writes some interesting stuff and the article below contains a lot of truth as far as the policy on heat pumps is concerned. As Richard points out, we are in the Alice-in-Wonderland school of government support as, despite needing £4.5 billion a year to meet its targets, the government has committed a mere £1.5 billion spread over four years from 2025 to 2028. UK AIMS FOR "COMPETITIVE CARBON CAPTURE MARKET" BY 2035

Did the headline make you scratch your head and wonder what on earth this was all about? When this dropped into my inbox my reaction was - how can there be a market in carbon capture? (let alone a competitive one!) The only way this could come about was if the government was to force it upon us, and thus force up the price of everything that produces CO2. This is simply Newspeak, as in 1984, where words took on whatever meaning the government wanted. To prove I did not make it all up here is the article which was sent to me:

All this could only be allowed to happen if we really had a "climate emergency" (due to CO2), so you can see how important all the propaganda to keep us all believing in it is. If it could be clearly demonstrated that there was no climate emergency then the whole thing would crumble away, which is why there are no serious discussions about the science in the media.

REGOs - WHAT ARE THEY?

 REGOs are Renewable Energy Guarantees of Origin certificates. used to certify renewable electricity in the UK. For each MWh a renewable generator produces, they can claim a REGO. Some people and some businesses want to be able to say they use renewable energy. For businesses this may be important to them as they believe their customers will think more highly of them if they can demonstrate their "green" credentials.

In reality the electricity available to us all is fed into the grid by all the different sources of supply including renewable and non-renewable suppliers. So everyone gets the same mix, which is constantly changing as the strength of the wind and the intensity of sunlight change. The concept of receiving 100% renewable energy is therefore an abstract concept which is based on trading these certificates. 

Where there is a market that can be fiddled then it is almost certain that it will be. You can read more details about this below;

Renewable Energy Guarantees Origin (REGO) Scheme Explained - Simply Switch 

 For many businesses, renewable power has become a crucial part of evidencing how they are decarbonising.  There is a lot of pressure on some businesses to do this, but how much more are they prepared to pay for electricity to do it?

Another important point to note is that for every customer that purchases REGOs and claims that their electricity is 100% renewable, the remaining customers will be deemed to be receiving a higher percentage of non-green energy, though they won't be told this! 

The result is NET ZERO as far as reducing the UKs overall CO2 emissions.

VOLCANIC ERUPTIONS AND CLIMATE VARIABILITY

Below are some points taken from a lecture by Professor Wyss Yim of University of Hong Kong in which he pointed out that all too frequently, submarine volcanoes creating warmth on the surface of the oceans are confused with El Niños, or worse, warming of the oceans from the influence of carbon dioxide. Greenhouse gases radiate infrared energy which does not penetrate even one inch into the oceans.

 Yim emphasizes that the IPCC now assumes all climate change (warming) is the product of human influence and is almost immediate rather than having to persist for 30 years or more. In short, any weather change can be called climate change. No doubt, a cooling would be dismissed as a freak event, or simply “weather.”

Yim states that climate change is a product of astronomical forcing including solar variability and the interaction of the Earth systems (atmosphere, hydrosphere, biosphere, cryosphere, pedosphere (the soil mantel of Earth) and lithosphere (rocky shell) including volcanism.

He ranks the order of importance for causing climate change as:

1. Astronomical forcing (glacial cycles, and regional changes such as monsoons and daily changes
2. Geothermal heat/plate climatology

3. Human induced changes including heat generation, water cycle changes and greenhouse gases.

Volcanic eruptions create the formation of heat blobs in the oceans and cause pressure changes, surface wind changes, sea-level changes --- thermal expansion, ocean current changes and polar sea-ice changes.

Yim gives interesting statistics on submarine volcanoes: Number – 1 million; Rising above 1 km from seabed – 75,000; Magma output in oceanic ridges – 75%; and Active submarine volcanoes --- about 5000.

The Geothermal heat released during eruptions change the ‘normal’ oceanic and / or atmospheric circulation and cause Ocean warming and ecological changes.

“Climatic models must take into account the influence of volcanic eruptions on atmospheric and oceanic circulation. The role of submarine volcanism in regional oceanic warming is greatly underestimated.

The missing heat attributed to carbon dioxide storage in oceans is better explained by the release of geothermal heat through submarine volcanism.”

CONSERVATIVES REBEL AGAINST ZERO EMISSION VEHICLE SUBSIDY

The legislation enforces an 80% target for electric vehicles as a percentage of new car sales by 2030. With 28 Conservative MPs (including tellers) voting against, it is the biggest Tory revolt of Rishi Sunak’s premiership. The only way that manufacturers can try to meet this target is by making petrol and diesel vehicles more expensive and cutting the price of electric vehicles. If they don't meet the target then they face a fine of up to £15,000 per vehicle. The result of all this could well mean the end of the car industry here in the UK, with the public simply keeping their second-hand vehicles for longer.

 If official records cannot be trusted then we are in deep trouble. And yet that is what is happening according to this report:

Lies can only be exposed by strong scrutiny and debate, which is missing as far as climate change is concerned.

As we get closer to the crunch when net zero begins to really hurt the public, there are obscure climate organisations beavering away to force the government to keep to the path they set out on, no matter what the cost. The government has signed up to so many international treaties and agreements that it is finding it impossible to wriggle free. It has ensnared itself in a mesh of red tape.
