OBAMA'S RUNNING MATE IS CLIMATE ALARMIST

US Democrat presidential candidate, Barack Obama, has selected Joe Biden as his running mate for the forthcoming election. This article gives some information about his background, which shows clearly that he is likely to put the US economy in great danger by backing massive wind-farm schemes. Unfortunately for the US the Republican candidate seems almost as bad, though I have a feeling that he is likely to be the least fanatical on the matter; so when the reality of office hits home he might make more practical decisions as opposed to Obama/Biden.

NEW THEORY OF CLIMATE CHANGE

Here is a fascinating new theory of climate chamge which has been developed by researcher David Dilley from Florida. Mr. Dilley shows that global warming and cooling cycles occur naturally in response to specific long-term changes in the gravitation cycles due to variations within the moon's orbit.

The 43 page book is available on line, though to access it you have to pay a small fee of around $10. The first five pages are freely accessible. Of course any new theory has to be viewed sceptically, but nevertheless it deserves careful study. It is clear that the climate is a hugely complex chaotic system and man's understanding of it is still very incomplete, but every new insight could help us improve it.

UK ENERGY NEEDS "MORE IMPORTANT THAN CLIMATE CHANGE" SAYS MINISTER

Reality is not only dawning but is coming centre stage at last. Our Secretary of State for Energy has stated what every government privately believes - that the nations energy needs are more important than so-called climate change. Next we will be hearing them saying that there is no way they're going to meet the renewables target set by the EU, well maybe that's still being a bit optimistic,though I'm sure they all know it's true!

ROW OVER NEW UK COAL PLANTS

According to this story in the Guardian the UK proposed new coal-fired power stations are likely to "wreck the new treaty to replace Kyoto"(sounds like some good news here!). It looks as though the fat is about to hit the fan as reality finally meets the climate change bandwaggon.

WILL US ECONOMY BE LEFT AT THE MERCY OF THE WIND?

If you would like to hear a member of the climate alarmist brigade take a hammering then I can recommend this "debate" on US radio in which Viscount Monckton pulls no verbal punches.

I almost felt sorry for the hapless alarmist, but was stopped by the knowledge that he runs a blog which specialises in discrediting those scientists who dare to speak out against the mantra of man-made global warming. This encounter was definitely a case of the biter bit.

Predictions about the Arctic becoming free of ice appear to be the usual exaggerations we have become used to. As far as I was aware the level of oxygen has always been 21%, except in crowded rooms where it declines, but to no serious effect to those in good health, but lets not allow that to spoil a good scare story.

This story from EU Referendum highlights the problem of using grain to make ethanol keeping the price of food high even in a time of bumper harvest.And all for the quite pointless aim of attempting (and failing) to control levels of CO2 in the atmosphere, under the delusion that this will control the weather!

CHARLES IGNITES GM DEBATE

Prince Charles spoke out against the use of genetically modified food. His remarks have been rebutted by others who believe that GM crops are essential in order to provide enough food for the world's population. This Telegraph article goes into the issues, including inevitably the CO2 emissions from modern farming methods.

Visitors to this blog have seen plenty of examples of one-sided reporting on the subject of GW. Reminscent of the anti-cruise missile protests of the 1980's, but on a rather smaller scale. They should have little impact on government policy. ANOTHER VACUOUS SCARE STORY IN THE GUARDIAN

This story in the Guardian is typical of the sort of thing we find regularly in the press and on the television news. It simply repeats the propaganda that we're all doomed unless we stop emitting CO2 immediately. Without any supporting evidence the "expert" informs us that we must prepare for a 4C rise in temperatures (in spite of the fact that we have experienced cooling over the past 9 years, and many other scientists expect this to continue for the next decade).

As another so-called "expert scientist" pointed out, saying "we're all doomed" is not very helpful, as it means we might as well not bother since anything we do will be too late anyway. This is going to be one of the big problems for the alarmists, as well as the problem of the real weather not going according to the dire predictions. Either the end of the world is nigh, or it isn't.

Last winter was very cold in many parts of the globe. We were lucky, but it will only take one severe winter to convince many that these doom merchants are simply crying wolf!

PLAY THE FLOODING GAME

This report explains the details. Of course it's all guesswork, as no one can forecast the weather. Personally I doubt many people will want to go through all the complicated steps involved in this tedious game, but it is designed to frighten the player into believing in manmade global warming. I wonder what happened to all the hot dry summers we were told to expect?

This piece in the Times points out the failure of government to have any sort of credible plan for future energy requirements. It would be funny if it wasn't going to cause such a disaster in five or ten years time - when they have left office. It is a thorough study which spells out starkly the folly of relying on wind power. LGA WANTS COUNCILS TO BEAT GOVERNMENT ENERGY TARGETS

The Local Government Association is trumpeting its global warming policy again in the latest edition of its weekly taxpayer funded magazine "First". See HERE. The article indicates that the LGA wants councils to try and exceed government targets on renewable energy. I have written to them as follows:

Dear Sir,

In Issue 390 article "Focus on Europe" it was said that the LGA wants "local authorities to have the ability to set [renewable energy] targets in excess of national targets". Given that many experts have said that the EU targets, adopted by our government, are impossible to achieve by 2020, how does the LGA presume that councils are going to achieve even more? Anyone can set abitrary targets, but meeting them (without massive cost implications and the risk of wrecking the economy) is an entirely different matter.

The LGA has a catchy soundbite "small change, big difference", but the reality, in my experience, is that most small changes make a small difference. The change from 2% to 15% of renewable energy would be a massive change, requiring immense cost. It is now becoming clear that there is no consensus that CO2 levels are causing significant climate change. Indeed global warming has stopped for almost a decade. Also there is no binding international agreement to limit CO2, so for the EU to act unilaterally without firm commitment from developing countries such as India and China will cause no reduction in CO2 anyway.

All pain with no gain.

I doubt whether they will publish it, but I will let readers know if they do. I believe it is important for us to challenge these organisations and policies as often and as prominently as we can. Unless the public are made aware of what is going on, and the damage that it is going to cause, then policy change will be impossible. Too many councillors are ambivalent about this and do not want to admit (or even accept) the potential disaster of attempts to rapidly de-carbonise our economy.

EU Referendum highlights a very weak piece of journalism in the Telegraph. The proposition that Europe's electricity could be produced in the Sahara desert from solar panels seems far-fetched even by the EU's standards, but the Telegraph reporter seems to have regurgitated it without hesitation.

TGGWS "DID NOT MISLEAD VIEWERS"

The film "The Great Global Warming Swindle" has been found "not to materially mislead viewers" in an enquiry by the broadcasting regulator, Ofcom, which has taken 15 months to complete, according to a leaked report in the Guardian. The report does say that there were several small errors in it and one scientist did mis-represent the views of one alarmist scientist by mistaking him for another scientist; but on the whole the film was found to be correct. US EPA SAYS CONGRESS MUST DECIDE ON CO2

A common sense decision by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) means that CO2 will not be subject to strict emission controls which would have crippled businesses all over the country. Climate extremists had wanted CO2 to be strictly controlled like hazardous chemicals, but despite a ruling from the Supreme Court ordering the EPA to make a ruling, they have declined to do so. Instead they have said that Congress should decide what controls they want.

TAX DODGE ON FLIGHTS CAN SAVE FAMILY £200

This is an article from April, so some may have already picked up on it, but I thought it was interesting, firstly to save paying tax to the government, but also to highlight the ridiculous nature of attempts to try to force changes in behaviour by using taxes in one country. The government naively think "few people will try to avoid the tax", but the French say 600,000 already do!

Further details of the thinking of developing nations such as India and China on GW can be found in this article. One telling statement was from Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh who said "economic growth must take priority over climate change mitigation". Marthinus van Schalkwyk, South Africa's environment minister added, "We must still deal with their (the developed nations) historical responsibility". In other words they are saying we don't think climate change is a top priority and we want you (the developed nations) to take the pain while we carry on developing and catch you up. It sounds much more like a world social engineering project than an urgent bid to "save the planet".
We know that the developing nations' emissions are rising dramatically and so whatever we decide to do in the West, we can have no significant effect on the level of CO2 in the atmosphere. All we will do is give away our wealth and our jobs to these countries, and all for nothing!

WORLD LEADERS EMISSION CUTS FARCE

This Telegraph article sums up the situation after the latest climate change summit of major nations in Japan. Just as we all new beforehand, the developing nations want the developed nations to do all the cutting while they carry on developing with impunity. Thw West has fallen for a social engineering project and now the only solution is a massive fudge. No one really believes in catastrophic global warming least of all the developing world (or else they would act on emissions now), but it is a handy stick to beat the West with.

GW - INDIA SAYS NO PROOF AND NO CUTS

This article in the Australian Herald gives a summary of the Indian policy on tackling "climate change". The article says that the Indians have seen no evidence of climate change nor any evidence of human involvement and they have no intention of cutting back on their emissions until they reach the same level per capita as the West.

This article by an expert in the subject explains why wind turbines will not reduce CO2 emissions by as much as has been assumed. He also looks at the record of wind strength across the UK and Western Europe and shows how often back up is likely to be required.

CLIMATE MODELS VERSUS REALITY

HERE is a very interesting lecture by Professor Fred Singer. It is a short video which highlights the difference between what climate models predict and what scientific observations actually show. The evidence is pretty conclusive.

In part 2 Prof. Singer goes on to show recent scientific evidence that suggests that cosmic radiation controls the climate affected by changes in the Sun's magnetic field which in turn affect clouds. It all fits neatly and is explained clearly with graphs and diagrams.

Here is a paper which has studied the figures in Australia and says "The collective evidence reviewed suggests that societal factors – dwelling numbers and values – are the predominant reasons for increasing insured losses due to natural hazards in Australia. The impact of human-induced climate change on insured losses is not detectable at this time. Yet another myth debunked by actual evidence.

CLIMATE MODELS FAILING YET AGAIN

Actual scientific observation is showing yet again the shortcomings of the much hyped "climate models". This report explains how scientists have found that the ozone over the Mid-Atlantic is being destroyed by 50% more than predicted by the computer models. This in turn leads to a reduction of methane resulting in a reduced greenhouse effect. It is becoming increasingly clear that the models are flawed (see here, here and here) in a number of ways and cannot be a reliable guide to climate prediction.

This Observer article confirms that, despite all the relentless propaganda, the general public do not swallow the GW theory. Poll after poll tells the same story. The more hysterical and one-sided the claims, the more unconvincing they sound; particularly when in the real world, temperatures are not rising but falling! As the public see the massive cost of the measures proposed by government to "combat" it, they are bound to question the basis of the claims being made; scepticism could soon turn to anger.

GOVERNMENT PLANS TO COST US ALL ROUND

This report in the Guardian sets out the outline of the government's measures to force us all to lower our carbon use. Every step is leading to increased costs, and all because they refuse to look at the science in a sensible way.

HISTORIC CO2 LEVEL DATA DECEPTION

Why do scientists who support the CO2 theory of global warming only use measurements of CO2 levels taken from ice cores to reconstruct past levels, when there are large numbers of well documented actual measurements made by scientists from as far back as 1812? The answer is in order to manipulate and deceive, according to This report by Dr. Zbigniew Jaworowski which explains that scientific measurements of CO2 levels show that between 1880 and 1940, when global temperatures increased by 0.5C, levels of CO2 increased from 290ppm to 440ppm (about 60ppm higher than today).

Between 1949 and 1970 global temperature decreased by 0.3C and the CO2 level dropped to 330ppm. Today when man-made CO2 emissions are 30 times higher than in 1980 the CO2 level is similar to that in the 1930's.

The paper referred to is essential reading for any climate realist. It is a quite shocking inditement of the establishment scientists of today. Will we ever believe a government scientist again?

HOW THE IPCC CORRUPTS SCIENCE

Here is a very interesting report by an expert reviewer,Dr. Vincent Gray, who explains in clear terms how the IPCC reports are compiled. His conclusion is that the whole process is so corrupt that he believes the IPCC must be abolished.

At the EU Agora (see post for June 11) , "Civil Society" (consisting of 99% committed climate alarmists) made a vast number of suggestions on how to stop climate changing, from the very low key - reducing washing up, to issuing carbon ration cards to every household. The final text of the Agora is available here, though, to be honest, I would not recommend reading it unless you really have nothing to do. The really alarming thing is that there are almost 500 people who are so brain-washed that they really believe that armageddon is just around the corner, and yet, astonishingly, they also believe that our salvation is at hand if only the EU and the World adopt their solutions. We also heard from a US professor who believed that all humans should become vegetarian.

NZ RENEWABLES LET THEM DOWN

This report in the Guardian explains how a drought in New Zealand has led to hydro-electric power stations failing. This is causing serious shortages leading to power cuts.

EU CONSULTS "CIVIL SOCIETY" ON GW

On Thursday I will be in Brussels attending something called an Agora. It is a type of conference organised by the EU to which 500 non-governmental organisations are invited. I have been asked to represent The Freedom Association.

The Agora website lists all the participants and also has a comment section for them. The pre-conference on-line discussions clearly show that the vast majority of those invited are fully signed up to the alarmist agenda. Already the Friends of the Earth representative has suggested that I should be banned (scroll to bottom of the link). If you have time, read the pre-conference Working Papers and you will get a clear idea of the mind-set of those in charge of the EU. The conference ends on Friday evening and I will post my impressions on my return.

I AM CLEARED IN STANDARDS INQUIRY

I can now reveal that I have been investigated (at considerable taxpayers expense) over allegations that I failed to register interests in so-called "bodies" in connection with the campaign to keep Al Gore's film out of schools. The complaint was made by a political opponent whose only "evidence" was an article in a newspaper linking me with a website straightteaching, and a small political party called the New Party. I believe his real objection was not about me registering an interest, but about my views of the Al Gore film and global warming alarmism.

The investigation by a barrister has cleared me of any wrong-doing. The case has resulted in considerable local publicity, which has highlighted further the importance of keeping political balance in schools - for which I must thank the complainant. WHER DO THE LEADING NATIONS STAND ON GW?

This article gives a simple guide to where they currently stand ahead of talks to get a new treaty in place by 2009 to replace Kyoto. Unless the West cave in and let the developing nations off the hook, it is looking as though no progress will be made. I expect some sort of partial cave in will occur and a Kyoto mark two will emerge promising fantastic cuts in CO2 in the future when all the current leaders have long left the scene. Even though the targets will never be met we will all feel the pain nevertheless.

3 CHEERS FOR BORIS

Here in this excellent article are many good reasons to be cheerful about Boris Johnson being elected Mayor of London. First it proves that it is possible to be sceptical of the current theory and be elected, in spite of your scepticism being put clearly before the voters.

This should encourage the many other climate sceptics to say what they think. Let's hope that, having won, Boris is going to continue to cut back on Livingstone's excessive policies in this area. He has already pledged to scrap the outrageous £25 per day charge on the vehicles emitting the highest CO2 levels which would be an excellent start.

Here's an innocent looking document which has been signed by dozens of councils. The first thing which struck me about it was how small the print was and with a dark blue background how hard it is to read. Just coincidence, or is there an ulterior motive? I don't welcome a unilateral 60% cut in emissions. This article on world energy gives some very interesting predictions of how the world's electrical energy is to be produced in the future. The estimates must be looked at with a great deal of scepticism; for example one body predicts windpower will make up 29%, whereas another suggests 3.5%. Such a wide variation suggests that we simply cannot predict what is going to happen. Technology is changing so rapidly that by 2030 the whole picture could easily change completely.

Personally I am not surprised by this, as there is no clear definition of "climate change" either; in fact the whole subject is a massive foggy area which allows for all sorts of spurious claims to be made, and no one can disprove any of them. One thing we do know is that "zero carbon homes" will cost more to build, which is a big draw back for potential buyers. I ought to point out that I am in favour of sensible measures to improve insulation and have efficient heating, but "zero Carbon" is just a fictional soundbite.

CHINA DEMANDS $66 BILLION A YEAR TO CUT CO2

In the negotiations to replace the Kyoto Treaty, the Chinese are demanding massive payments from the USA and other developed nations of 0.5% 0f GDP according to this report in order to cut their CO2 emissions. Here we can see the real price the West is being asked to pay without any guarantee that it will get any benefit in return. It is as if the Chinese are playing a game of blackmail - pay up or the planet gets it! The idea that nations are responsible for the past, when there was no knowledge of any theory linking CO2 to climate change is similar to the idea of retrospective payments to the descendants of slaves. It is something that must be resisted, or if accepted it will open the floodgates to thousands of claims.

OLD SOLAR CYCLE HANGS ON

Although I reported the other day that the new solar cycle (24) had started, it is now clear from the NASA website that sunspots from the old cycle are still appearing. This means we are likely to see the new cycle in 2012 with activity remaining low until then.

AUSSIES TO PAY HIGH PRICE FOR CARBON TRADING

This report in the Australian sets out the situation on energy prices. Like others they will pay a high price for a carbon trading scheme which is supposed to reduce emsissions of CO2. They will soon find that the effect will be to force up prices for energy that people will have to buy.

GREEN ENERGY CAUSES TOWN TO SINK

This Telegraph story concerns a German town which hired engineers to drill down to extract geothermal heat. This has caused subsidence. Just shows the unintended consequences that can occur - rather like the consequences of trying to rid the economy of carbon.

HUMAN RIGHT NOT TO CHANGE CLIMATE

No, this is not an April Fool's joke!
The UN is considering the Human Rights aspect of climate change. It looks like this will be used to bring law suits against those companies and governments who emit greenhouse gases, on the grounds that they are changing the climate. To succeed they would surely need to prove that the adverse effects of climate change were directly caused by man-made CO2. Sounds like a sure-fired winner for the lawyers. Last time a High Court Judge ruled on climate change he found that Al Gore had exaggerated his case.

Of course in respect of sea level rise, we know that this is already occurring and has been going on for centuries; so how on Earth will anyone be able to sort out the natural element from the so-called man-made element? Not only that but whose CO2 would be blamed? It beggars belief!

IPCC ON THE RUN SAYS PROFESSOR

This article from the Canada Free Press by Professor Bob Carter explains why the IPCC may have to eat their words as a result of the facts about the climate not matching up with the wild predictions made by the IPCC in its most recent 2007 report. The IPCC are victims of their own attempts to exaggerate their findings in order to frighten the public. Now their chickens may be coming home to roost.

WHY DO THE LEFT EMBRACE GW CO2 THEORY?

This was the question raised by an MP (Liberal Democrat) in the UK parliamentary debate mentioned in an earlier post. No answer was given in the debate, but he has a point, because there is no doubt that those who seek a tightly managed economy and believe the state should provide for us and control us, and knows what is best for us would naturally have an affinity with a theory which provides a very powerful reason to do just that. It is therefore natural that politicians who have no scientific background may divide on this issue according to their political beliefs. In fact many who are considered to be on the right also claim to believe in the theory. My guess is that many of them do so because they believe that it is a vote-winner, though if it is proved wrong they may live to regret it.

Prof. Carter speaks with great depth of knowledge about the subject.

GW THEORY DOES NOT FIT SATELLITE DATA

This report in the Australian contains an interview with Jennifer Marohasy, a biologist and senior fellow of Melbourne-based think tank the Institute of Public Affairs, who has studied the latest research into climate. In part of the interview she referred to NASA's Aqua satellite programme, launched in 2002. It enabled the collection of data, not just on temperature but also on cloud formation and water vapour.

What the data from the satellite shows is that a little bit of warming causes weather processes to compensate, so they're actually limiting the greenhouse effect and causing a negative rather than a positive feedback. This is the opposite of what the computer climate models suggest, which is that warming from additional carbon dioxide will result in increased water vapour, which gives a positive feedback. The meteorological community are having trouble digesting the findings. They accept that the satellite data does not fit the models and will have to come to terms with the fact that the computer models need to be overhauled. The new models are expected to show greatly reduced future warming.

USA CO2 EMISSIONS UP

Only a few days ago I put a report on this site showing that UK CO2 emissions were much higher than the government had been saying; now this report informs us that the USA is also increasing emissions. This all simply shows that reducing emissions is not going to happen despite all the noise. Even if man could change the climate by cutting CO2, and I personally don't believe he can, he is not going to do it because as I have said before, no government will put its people throught the massive pain to do it. What we get is all talk and promises. Would it not be much better if politicians admitted that they did not know enough about climate and so they were abandoning the targets in favour of a policy of adapting to climate as necessary. That would be refreshing and honest, but I very much doubt it will happen

15MPH SPEED LIMIT TO COMBAT GW

No, its not an early April Fool joke, but a serious UK government policy. This is being proposed for the new "eco-towns" that are to be built to house those moving out of our cities to make way for the millions of immigrants planned for the next few years. You can read the details here from the Telegraph. Why the government think that 15mph will reduce emissions I don't know. We will soon be returning to the man with a red flag in front. No doubt these towns will be filled with speed cameras to enforce this limit.

GLOBAL WARMING BLAMED AGAIN!

Anyone would think, reading this article that some people wanted to blame all extreme weather on global warming/climate change. Even though scientists have already stated that the recent floods were not caused by global warming, some will not accept that. Such tactics are back-firing as they only lead to cynicism.

The Governor of South Carolina has jumped on the bandwagon in trying to blame "global warming" for every uncomfortable quirk of the weather, but this report has looked at the history of the area's climate and found: "South Carolina’s climate shows no statistically significant trend in statewide average annual temperature, or precipitation, or in the frequency and/or severity of droughts — an indication that “global warming” is anything but “global” and also strong evidence that local and regional processes are more important than global ones in determining local climate."

When will politicians wake up and look at the facts instead of following the hype?

UK MPs DEBATE CLIMATE CHANGE

I often moan about the failure of politicians to rise above the tide of the prevailing bandwagon and be of an independent mind. However, here is a link to a recent debate in the UK parliament in which one or two brave MPs were prepared to speak out. It is only a very few, but at least it is a start. The debate is rather long and many MPs are fully signed up alarmists, and trot out the well-worn mantra. However some interesting points were raised by the few. I particularly like the following quote:

On the Stern report - Professor Richard Tol of Carnegie Mellon University, a world leading environmental economist said "If a student of mine were to hand in this report as a Masters thesis, perhaps if I were in a good mood, I would give him a 'D' for diligence; but more likely, I would give him an 'F' for fail."

COWS CAUSING GLOBAL WARMING

Scientists are working to try to reduce the amount of methane put out by flatulant cows. This report in the Telegraph explains that the research has had some success, but still a long way to go.

GOVERNMENT HYPOCRISY ON CARBON STATS

The UK government has been making out that it is succeeding in reducing our emission of greenhouse gases. It now transpires that such claims were probably untrue, and were made as a result of misleading and inaccurate statistics. This report in the Guardian explains how the National Audit Office has found out. Yet another case of politicians not being straight. The reality is that to cut emissions by any significant amount would lead to major economic problems.

SIGN UP TO THE MANHATTAN DECLARATION

If you believe that the current hype over global warming is misplaced and there is still much to learn, then I urge you to sign this declaration which is open to both scientists and citizens. The Manhattan Declaration is available here. It was produced as a result of the recent climate conference held in Manhattan, New York at the beginning of March.

"CARBON OFF-SETTING" RACKET EXPOSED

People who think they are being good,responsible citizens by "off-setting" their carbon footprint are being taken for a ride, according to this report in the Telegraph. Many people think that these organisations will all be genuine and fair, but even charities are now big businesses, with highly paid directors. We can trust no one in business, greens are no exception.

THE MISSING HEAT IN THE OCEANS

This report explains that recent attempts to find out if the oceans are warming has come up with the surprising result - they aren't! The oceans are the worlds natural heat sink and so if the planet is getting hotter, then where is the heat going? Scientists are trying to solve the mystery - but perhaps the answer is that there is not as much heat as they thought.

DEMOCRACY BY-PASSED TO INCREASE RECYCLING

This article shows how the government intend to try to by-pass the democratic process and set up quango's so that unpopular fortnightly collection schemes and charges for refuse can be levied. There is also mention of a "green tzar", or Chief Sustainability Officer, paid £140,000 a year by the government to increase recycling. They must be desperate!

UNPRECEDENTED ARCTIC WARMING - IN 1922

This fascinating newspaper report from 1922 just shows what we all know - that the climate is constantly changing and always has done. So next time some news reader says something is unprecedented we should take it with at least a pinch of salt!

CARBON RATIONING OR FREEDOM

Czech President, Vaclav Klaus, in his address to the recent Climate Change Conference posed the stark choice - carbon rationing or freedom - as what the world is now facing. This article discusses what is at stake. Klaus likens the command and control regime needed to ration carbon to that of the former communist states.

President Klaus said “the dream” to reduce emissions in the EU by 70 per cent in the next 30 years could only be achieved if there was a dramatic de-industrialisation of Europe - likely associated with a dramatic drop in GDP, a significant drop in population, or a technological revolution.

IRELAND'S FUTURE - FACT OR FANTASY?

Entitled "Changing Shades of Green," the report by the Irish American Climate Project twins science gleaned from the U.N. Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change and the musings of a poet, a fiddler, a fisherman, a farmer and others with deep connections to Ireland.

This article describes the report which seems to be designed to scare its readers into believing that Ireland will change from The Emerald Isle to some sort of brown dust-bowl. The report is full of "could's" and "if's". I seriously wonder whether this sort of emotional blackmail will have the desired effect, or will the public rightly dismiss these "musings" as sentimental mush.

CANADIAN SCHOOLS GIVEN NEW BOOK ON CLIMATE CHANGE

This new publication by the Fraser Institute is being given to Canadian schools. All schools should be given clear factual information like this. Who would fund it for the UK?

BLAIR TO SAVE THE PLANET

This report in the Guardian explains that Tony Blair is to lead the world's major industrial nations to a new agreement to cut emissions. Blair has claimed that there are only 2 years left before "climate change" becomes irreversible. This, remember, is the man who told us that Iraq definitely had weapons of mass destruction and could strike within 45 minutes! How apt that he should now be heading the biggest scare story of all.

RELENTLESS PROPAGANDA

You can see from this latest edition of "First" (a magazine for all UK councillors, sent out using taxpayers money, as well as being on-line) that the "message" about GW is still being relentlessly pumped out, with no room for dissent. In an earlier post I drew attention to the continuous stream of GW propaganda. This is the "official" line which now permeates through all levels of government local and national, and all three main political parties. Though privately there are a number of councillors and staff who do not agree with it, publicly there are hardly any who dare to speak out for fear of being discredited or losing their position. It is rather like going into a church and saying you don't believe in god.

It is not only us councillors who are subjected to the government message. Children are being targeted by government-funded organisations such as the Economic and Social Research Council. According to the local paper this event included an "expert panel" consisting of someone from Friends of the Earth, someone from the Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research (who get their funding from the ESRC), and someone from the council, with a government minister opening the event. The article says "the students will be asked whether it is basically the Government's responsibility to tackle climate change or if individuals have to take action." Not, of course, whether man is responsible for climate change, or can affect it; or even whether the cost of attempting to do so is affordable or proportionate. Those questions would be much too controversial and suggest there could be alternatives.

Also advertising in the same edition of "First" is an organisation called "Groundwork". They are also targeting young people (see their website here) These bodies are charities, no doubt receiving taxpayers money, and doing good work; but they are now proselytisers for this new faith.

BASIC CLIMATE EQUATIONS FLAWED

An expert climate scientist has discovered a basic error in the equations used to predict the warming effect of greenhouse gases. This article explains the background. As usual the work has been suppressed until now and it is still being side-lined by the massive global warming industry. The revised equations show that the effect of greenhouse gases is much smaller than previously thought.

EU SPLIT OVER PROTECTING CORE INDUSTRY

This report on the latest EU talks mentions that there is a disagreement about how much extra costs can be heaped on key industries that emit large amounts of CO2 without driving them out of Europe. It is easy to see why they find this difficult - save the planet, or save EU industry.

A CENTURY'S WARMING GONE IN ONE YEAR

This report explains that the official records show the world's temperature has cooled by a massive 0.65C between January 2007 and January 2008.It is the largest change (up or down) in a single year ever recorded! Why hasn't this attracted huge headlines in the press and been a major item on news bulletins? Back in February I posted a piece referring to a 2.2C rise over 36 years recorded in England at the end of the 15th century. I am not saying this proves anything, other than the climate is subject to quite dramatic changes over short periods, and that we have still got a lot to learn about it.

WORLD SOCIAL ENGINEERING SCHEME TALKS

The latest G20 talks are underway in Japan. It seems that there is a great deal of posturing by the leaders, who are being asked to pass over their taxpayers money to the third world, on the grounds that they have caused the climate problems of the third world. It is clear to see that global warming aka climate change has now become the driver of the largest social engineering scheme in history. The whole thing would fall flat if global warming was found to be false. Not only that, but the stakes have got so high now that if GW is discredited, then the credibility of UN scientists will be seriously damaged.

BUDGET A REALITY CHECK

British Prime Minster Gordon Brown's Chancellor, Alistair Darling, has shown in his latest budget the reality of his government's commitment to reduce CO2, which is they will pay lip-service to it but nothing more. (Thank goodness!) Targets set for 2050 are a lot lower down the agenda than keeping the economy going. It seems highly unlikely to me that any government that has to be re-elected will put in place the drastic measures needed to cut CO2. That is not to say that what they do do is not going to cause considerable pain anyway.

COAL PLANTS CANCELLED IN USA

This report highlights the way the USA is backing away from coal since 2000. I cannot see how they are going to maintain, let alone grow, their economy and their standard of living without an abundant supply of power at an affordable price. While the Chinese continue to build even more coal-fired plants, ensuring their own economy picks up the USA's losses, we can be sure that CO2 levels will still continue to grow world-wide.

SURVEY SHOWS PUBLIC BORED WITH GW

The Dail Record reports on a survey which shows how bored the public are about the issue of GW, or climate change. It is not a surprise as the talk does not match the reality.

GLOBAL TEMPERATURES DECLINING SINCE 2001

For those of a scientific background this blog report makes very interesting reading. Why has no news bulletin reported on the fact that not only has no warming occurred since 1998, but that since 2001 all the official data shows a cooling trend? Of course a short trend does not mean that it is bound to continue, but it deserves to be made public and discussed just as much as earlier trends in the other direction.

EU TO GO FOR 30% CO2 CUTS BY 2020

This article gives the detail, but to summarise it appears that even though they looked unlikely to get 20%, they are ramping up the rhetoric. Though the caveat is that this is subject to a world agreement, which looks even less likely! EU Referendum has its own take on this. Well worth reading.
