GEOLOGY PROF.PREDICTS GLOBAL COOLING

This report explains that the change is caused by a change in Pacific Ocean currents from El Nino to La Nina, which has nothing to do with CO2, hence the lack of reports in the mainstream media. An interesting report worth reading.

MILIBAND STAYS IN FANTASY LAND ON CO2 TARGET

While other countries are rowing back from impossible commitments, (see earlier posts), the UK CO2 reduction target has been increased by new minister Ed Miliband. He presumably thinks that as he is likely to be out of office in 18 months, he might as well keep peddling the myth that such a target is achievable, since it will be left to his successor to find out that it isn't!

REALITY BITES IN THE EU

I have thought all along that sooner or later the nations of the West would have to veer away from the preposterous targets on CO2 emission cuts they had set themselves in moments of delusion. This report from the BBC explains exactly what is happening. It is so easy to agree to a rash promise, but sooner or later you have to face up to reality.

ECO RECORD BID POSTPONED DUE TO "CLIMATE CHANGE"

This report explains. The irony is that the attempt at a record speed for a wind-powered car was halted because the dry lake bed had been made wet by much welcome rainfall - surely a benefit of climate change. The point being that we have to accept the climate we get and adapt to it - as we always have.

UN CLIMATE PLANS NO USE TO THE POOR

This article shows how the UN's climate policies are ineffective at helping those in greatest need. There is no doubt that people need to be able to adapt to the climate rather than attempt to change it. THE COST OF "PREVENTING" GLOBAL WARMING?

There are a lot of assumptions in this study which looks at the cost of preventing global warming and what the benefit of spending money now to try to prevent it would be. This is assuming that such prevention (i.e. drastic reductions in CO2 emissions) would be effective - a huge leap of faith!

MAN'S PUNY ATTEMPT TO CONTROL CLIMATE

Bjorn Lomborg's recent article in The Times illustrates perfectly the whole nonsense of man trying to control the climate by reducing CO2 levels. He asserts that the current measures will reduce temperatures in a hundred years time by a tiny fraction of a degree - in practice of no effect at all. Even though I disagree with Lomborg when he says that he accepts that CO2 is driving climate change, his conclusions on the economics are damning and in themselves make the case for not taking expensive action. Every MP should read his article.

PROOF OF THE MEDIEVAL WARM PERIOD

Here is a great project by the CO2 Science blog which draws together all the scientific evidence which shows that there was indeed a Medieval Warm Period all over the globe. ENVIRONMENT AGENCY TRIES TO STOP NEW COAL-FIRED POWER STATION

Yet more inconsistency at the heart of government as the Quango Environment Agency wades in with a report which wants to ban all coal-fired power stations until they can be fitted with carbon-captuure. See this report in the Times. All this nonsense while we face imminent power shortages. Of course by then all this lot will be out of power and so couldn't give a damn. Can they be tried for gross dereliction of duty? (no - of course not!)

FREEDOM ZONE AT TORY CONFERENCE

This year's Conservative Party conference looks like being the most upbeat for years, and this time delegates will have an alternative to the main platform speakers on Monday 29th and Tuesday 30th September. The Freedom Association (TFA) in conjunction with other like-minded organisations has booked a superb venue just outside the security zone see HERE for full details of venue and programme of events.

A key session is to be on climate with an emphasis on actual science rather than computer predictions. The panel includes Ruth Lea and Christopher Monckton, and is chaired by Roger Helmer. I am very much looking forward to listening to the discussion.

SCHOOL PROPAGANDA WARS

Almost a year ago a High Court Judge ruled that Al Gore's polemic "An Inconvenient Truth" was not an ordinary science film, but it was a piece of political propaganda which could only be shown in schools if special guidance was followed. Nevertheless the government decided to continue to promote the film to all secondary schools in England.

In the interest of balance The Freedom Association (which I am proud to be the climate spokesman for) is offering a free DVD of "The Great Global Warming Swindle" to all secondary schools in the UK. So far the offer has been extended to schools in Leicestershire and there has been an encouraging take up. Teachers do not like being lectured to by government and want to give students a broad understanding of the very complex issues involved in global climate. We must never allow any government to give prescriptive instructions on the political matter taught in school.

BANKRUPT LEHMAN MISSES OUT ON CARBON TRADING BONANZA

Christopher Booker's Column explains the link between the former banking giant and the emissions trading nonsense about to be inflicted on all of us. UK COMPANIES CALL FOR ACTION ON CO2

This BBC story explains that a number of leading company bosses have written to the political parties to urge them to continue with the policies of replacing fossil fuel with renewables. It is strange that companies like Shell and British Airports would call for policies which appear to be against their business interests, but I suspect it is more a case of appearing to be "green" as good PR - more about image than substance. So dominant is the theory of man-made global warming that it has become automatic for business to publicly support CO2 reduction. It is rare indeed for any business to do the opposite. It is in this way that the idea of "consensus" is claimed and regardless of the science our politicians will continue to pay lip-service to it.

EARTH - THE CLIMATE WARS

The BBC have been putting out a programme on Sundays at 9pm on BBC2 for the last two weeks on global warming. The final part is next Sunday. The programmes can be viewed online HERE. It seems clear to me that the series is propaganda in favour of the theory of man-made global warming. Three hour long programmes is rather tedious and the presenter, Dr. Ian Stewart, tries hard to give the impression that he is a neutral observer, while clearly steering us to one conclusion. Unfortunately for the BBC their programme clashes with a popular drama and viewing figures have been low (only 1.6 million).

In the first programme he reviews the history of the subject and in the second he seeks to demonstrate that the evidence clearly shows that man-made CO2 is the cause of the recent warming. His main "evidence" was the notorious hockey-stick graph of temperature over the past thousand years which has been discredited by many reviewers, see HERE and HERE.

In the programme he even concedes that there is strong evidence that Greenland was warmer during the medieval warm period than it is today, but then goes on to state that the Hockey Stick graph says it didn't happen. In other words he believes that a reconstruction using tree-rings is more reliable than actual written evidence.

The BBC would like us to believe that the "climate wars" are over and that the alarmists have won, but in fact they are just entering a new phase when the computer model prediction meet with the reality of climate, and this is a battle even the BBC may have trouble with.

GW - BEST VALUE OPTION IS DO NOTHING SAYS OFFICIAL AUSSIE REPORT

COMMON SENSE FROM CONSERVATIVE COUNCILLOR

At last we are getting people prepared to speak out publicly to denounce the climate alarmism that has been infecting so many of those in positions of authority. See this article to read the unfounded alarmist nonsense coming from paid council officers and the common sense views of a Birmingham councillor. I would like to congratulate Cllr. Barton for having the courage to speak out. Many others agree with him but fear that saying so publicly will adversely affect their career or lead to unpleasant remarks about them. It is so much easier for people to keep quiet and keep a low profile, but doing so is to allow alarmists to inflict massive costs on us all.

CANOIST STUCK IN ARCTIC ICE

This post explains that the intrepid canoist who was being shown on the BBC news several nights running has now run into some real ice and is beginning to get stuck. So much for the Arctic being ice-free. I wondered what had become of him. The final irony would be if he got eaten by a polar bear!

COW FARTS DESTROYING THE PLANET

The man who leads the IPCC, Rajendra Pachauri, has said we should eat less meat to prevent global warming. The brilliant "Watts Up With That" blog makes the following point:

"Before the introduction of cattle, millions upon millions of buffalo dominated the Great Plains of America. They were so thick you could not see where the herd started and where it ended. I can only assume that the anti-meat, manmade global warming crowd must believe that buffalo farts have more socially redeeming value than the same flatulence emitted by cattle. Yes, this is absurd, but the deeper one looks into this global warming juggernaut, the weirder this movement becomes and the more denial is evident."

UK JUDGE CLEARS ECO PROTESTORS

It seems as though US climate scientist James Hansen has influenced a UK jury into clearing a group of Green Peace activists who scaled a power station chimney to daub slogans on it. They were protesting against a proposal to build a new coal-fired power station on the site. See HERE to read the report. By interpreting the law in this way the decision could open the floodgates to protestors to use the same defence for anything else that concerns them. Could be the road to anarchy. They may appeal.

THE IPCC's HOUSE OF CARDS

Christopher Booker deserves great credit for his brilliant expositions of the global warming scams. Thanks to his writing millions of people are able to see things which would otherwise be much harder to see. In this recent column in the Sunday Telegraph he sums up the whole charade, putting all the main points together.

The climate is changing, it always has and always will. We just have to accept it and adapt to it. It is simply far too complex for us to understand it fully, let alone control it. The posturing, the hot air, and the massive industry that has grown up around it will all be seen in the future to be as stupid as the Southsea Bubble, or come to that the Sub-Prime Mortgage fiasco! It makes you wonder why anyone trusts governments at all.

US CLIMATE SCIENTIST IN UK TO STOP NEW COAL-FIRED POWER STATION

This story in the Telegraph describes how NASA climate scientist and leading alarmist James Hansen has been in the UK to support GW activists trying to prevent the new coal-fired power station from being approved.

According to THIS REPORT the US is already moving away from coal in a massive way, encouraged by alarmist scientists like Hansen.

Energy security is the big factor that could change the picture dramatically. Coal is still abundant both in the US and the UK, and so is much more secure than oil and gas imports. Slight global warming versus energy security - it's a no-brainer!

POLITICAL POWER AND ENERGY SECURITY

DRIER WEATHER AFFECTS MOSS IN JAP GARDENS

IS EU BACKTRACKING ON CO2 PLEDGE?

This story released by Reuters explains that a little light may be dawning on the EU leadership, that their leading industries may be at risk if they continue to hike up their costs in the name of global warming prevention. This is another example of government waking up to reality and deciding that maybe the people are more important than giving lip-service to the alarmists.

OBAMA'S RUNNING MATE IS CLIMATE ALARMIST

US Democrat presidential candidate, Barack Obama, has selected Joe Biden as his running mate for the forthcoming election. This article gives some information about his background, which shows clearly that he is likely to put the US economy in great danger by backing massive wind-farm schemes. Unfortunately for the US the Republican candidate seems almost as bad, though I have a feeling that he is likely to be the least fanatical on the matter; so when the reality of office hits home he might make more practical decisions as opposed to Obama/Biden.

See HERE for details of US oil reserves and more.

NEW THEORY OF CLIMATE CHANGE

Here is a fascinating new theory of climate chamge which has been developed by researcher David Dilley from Florida. Mr. Dilley shows that global warming and cooling cycles occur naturally in response to specific long-term changes in the gravitation cycles due to variations within the moon's orbit.

The 43 page book is available on line, though to access it you have to pay a small fee of around $10. The first five pages are freely accessible. Of course any new theory has to be viewed sceptically, but nevertheless it deserves careful study. It is clear that the climate is a hugely complex chaotic system and man's understanding of it is still very incomplete, but every new insight could help us improve it.

UK ENERGY NEEDS "MORE IMPORTANT THAN CLIMATE CHANGE" SAYS MINISTER

Reality is not only dawning but is coming centre stage at last. Our Secretary of State for Energy has stated what every government privately believes - that the nations energy needs are more important than so-called climate change. Read the full report in this Telegraph article. Next we will be hearing them saying that there is no way they're going to meet the renewables target set by the EU, well maybe that's still being a bit optimistic, though I'm sure they all know it's true!

AN ENERGY FANTASY WORLD

For the benefit of foreign readers I must point out that the UK has three political parties - the third one has no chance of governing, and so is largely ignored. When you read this piece by the EU Referendum blog you will understand why!

Mind you, in its defence, I have to add that the other major parties are almost as bad in their understanding of the realities of energy provision. It's no better in most other countries from what I have read. Have you stocked your candles yet?

THE HOCKEY STICK SAGA - A TALE OF SUBTERFUGE AND CORRUPTION

Most readers will be familiar with the infamous hockey-stick graph which purports to show that there was no such thing as the medieval warm period or the little ice-age. The hockey-stick graph has been de-bunked by other scientists, but its conclusions are regarded as so important that climate alarmist scientists have gone to extraordinary lengths to try to preserve it.

The whole story is long and complex, but one brave blogger has attempted to put it together in a readable way HERE. This reading is going to take a little time to go through, but for those who wish to improve their understanding it is worthwhile.

ALARMIST ROUTED IN RADIO DEBATE

If you would like to hear a member of the climate alarmist brigade take a hammering then I can recommend this "debate" on US radio in which Viscount Monckton pulls no verbal punches.

I almost felt sorry for the hapless alarmist, but was stopped by the knowledge that he runs a blog which specialises in discrediting those scientists who dare to speak out against the mantra of man-made global warming. This encounter was definitely a case of the biter bit.

ARCTIC ICE REFUSES TO MELT

Predictions about the Arctic becoming free of ice appear to be the usual exaggerations we have become used to. This article gives the up to date situation which seems far removed from the doom-laden warnings of the alarmists and their messengers in the television news studios. But we won't hear any broadcasts of their failed predictions, nor of the large increase in ice at the Antarctic. They remain resolutely on-message - if it doesn't fit the global warming narrative it isn't news.

AL GORE'S CARBON EMPIRE

Al Gore is keen to expose those who speak out against his alarmist agenda as being in the pay of oil companies, yet he stands to make a fortune out of carbon trading schemes as THIS REPORT EXPLAINS. FORGET CO2 - START WORRYING ABOUT O2!

Yes folks, the latest apocalyptic story emerging is the declining level of oxygen in the atmosphere. This Guardian piece by prominent left wing homosexual, Peter Tatchell gives the details. As far as I was aware the level of oxygen has always been 21%, except in crowded rooms where it declines, but to no serious effect to those in good health, but lets not allow that to spoil a good scare story.

COAL POWER IS ESSENTIAL SAY GOVERNMENT

A dose of realism has emerged from the government who are now keen to back a new coal-fired power station at Kingsnorth in Kent, even without any commitment to fit the unproven carbon-capture technology. Realistically they know that power companies will not invest at all if too many strings are attached - something that the opposition seem unaware of! This article gives the detail.

US CLIMATE REPORT - A PERVERSION OF SCIENCE

Visitors to this blog have seen plenty of examples of one-sided reporting on the subject of GW. Here is an article on the US Climate Change Assessment Report draft which is yet another appalling example of what the writer describes as a perversion of science. As the evidence against serious warming gets weaker the alarmists can only try to make even more apocalyptic predictions to try to persuade an ever more sceptical public of the approach of armageddon.

ECO WARRIORS IN BATTLE OF KINGSNORTH

The protestors against the proposed new coal-fired power stations on the site of the existing power station at Kingsnorth in Kent caused a ripple of media attention in recent days. ANOTHER VACUOUS SCARE STORY IN THE GUARDIAN

This story in the Guardian is typical of the sort of thing we find regularly in the press and on the television news. It simply repeats the propaganda that we're all doomed unless we stop emitting CO2 immediately. Without any supporting evidence the "expert" informs us that we must prepare for a 4C rise in temperatures (in spite of the fact that we have experienced cooling over the past 9 years, and many other scientists expect this to continue for the next decade).

As another so-called "expert scientist" pointed out, saying "we're all doomed" is not very helpful, as it means we might as well not bother since anything we do will be too late anyway. This is going to be one of the big problems for the alarmists, as well as the problem of the real weather not going according to the dire predictions. Either the end of the world is nigh, or it isn't.

Last winter was very cold in many parts of the globe. We were lucky, but it will only take one severe winter to convince many that these doom merchants are simply crying wolf!

PLAY THE FLOODING GAME

This report explains the details. Of course it's all guesswork, as no one can forecast the weather. Personally I doubt many people will want to go through all the complicated steps involved in this tedious game, but it is designed to frighten the player into believing in manmade global warming. I wonder what happened to all the hot dry summers we were told to expect?

ENERGY POLICY - WHAT ENERGY POLICY?

This piece in the Times points out the failure of government to have any sort of credible plan for future energy requirements. It would be funny if it wasn't going to cause such a disaster in five or ten years time - when they have left office. Another take on the same issue is to be found on the EU Referendum blog which naturally, and very importantly, highlights the EU dimension.

In the same vein, I have been given a copy of an excellent Centre for Policy Studies (CPS) booklet "Wind Chill" by Tony Lodge. It is a thorough study which spells out starkly the folly of relying on wind power. It can be read online by going to CPS, latest publicationsand scrolling down to "Wind Chill", and clicking on view.

IN DEFENCE OF TGGWS

The ramifications of the recent OFCOM report on the film "The Great Global Warming Swindle" continue to rumble on, much of it selectively biased against the film. To counter that HERE is a more balanced piece.

CHILD INDOCTRINATION ON CLIMATE

This article explains how children are being encourage to act as "climate cops" and collect evidence of "climate crimes" committed by their families. It is not not merely the encouraging of children to be conscious of not wasting energy, which I agree is a good thing, but this campaign goes much further than that and introduces a more sinister spying aspect reminiscent of those in totalitarian regimes.

LGA WANTS COUNCILS TO BEAT GOVERNMENT ENERGY TARGETS

The Local Government Association is trumpeting its global warming policy again in the latest edition of its weekly taxpayer funded magazine "First". See HERE. The article indicates that the LGA wants councils to try and exceed government targets on renewable energy. I have written to them as follows:

Dear Sir,

In Issue 390 article "Focus on Europe" it was said that the LGA wants "local authorities to have the ability to set [renewable energy] targets in excess of national targets". Given that many experts have said that the EU targets, adopted by our government, are impossible to achieve by 2020, how does the LGA presume that councils are going to achieve even more? Anyone can set abitrary targets, but meeting them (without massive cost implications and the risk of wrecking the economy) is an entirely different matter.

The LGA has a catchy soundbite "small change, big difference", but the reality, in my experience, is that most small changes make a small difference. The change from 2% to 15% of renewable energy would be a massive change, requiring immense cost. It is now becoming clear that there is no consensus that CO2 levels are causing significant climate change. Indeed global warming has stopped for almost a decade. Also there is no binding international agreement to limit CO2, so for the EU to act unilaterally without firm commitment from developing countries such as India and China will cause no reduction in CO2 anyway.

All pain with no gain.

Cllr. Derek Tipp (New Forest DC)

I doubt whether they will publish it, but I will let readers know if they do. I believe it is important for us to challenge these organisations and policies as often and as prominently as we can. Unless the public are made aware of what is going on, and the damage that it is going to cause, then policy change will be impossible. Too many councillors are ambivalent about this and do not want to admit (or even accept) the potential disaster of attempts to rapidly de-carbonise our economy.

AUSSIE GOVERNMENT COOLING ON CLIMATE BILL

This article in The Australian gives the details. Apparently the Australian Labour Government cannot get its climate change legislation through its parliament as the Greens won't support it as it does not go far enough and the Conservatives think it goes too far.

TELEGRAPH IN ENERGY FANTASY STORY

EU Referendum highlights a very weak piece of journalism in the Telegraph. The proposition that Europe's electricity could be produced in the Sahara desert from solar panels seems far-fetched even by the EU's standards, but the Telegraph reporter seems to have regurgitated it without hesitation.

TGGWS "DID NOT MISLEAD VIEWERS"

The film "The Great Global Warming Swindle" has been found "not to materially mislead viewers" in an enquiry by the broadcasting regulator, Ofcom, which has taken 15 months to complete, according to a leaked report in the Guardian. The report does say that there were several small errors in it and one scientist did mis-represent the views of one alarmist scientist by mistaking him for another scientist; but on the whole the film was found to be correct. For further in depth discussion see This article on the excellent EU Referendum blog. Also in the Telegraph.

TROPICAL VIRUS REACHES EUROPE

This article gives the details. Of course global warming gets the blame, even though it is no hotter now than in the past. Much more likely that these diseases are being spread by increses in travel and trade. The article mentions that malaria used to be prevalent in the 17th century in the UK, but that was during the little ice age!

US EPA SAYS CONGRESS MUST DECIDE ON CO2

A common sense decision by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) means that CO2 will not be subject to strict emission controls which would have crippled businesses all over the country. Climate extremists had wanted CO2 to be strictly controlled like hazardous chemicals, but despite a ruling from the Supreme Court ordering the EPA to make a ruling, they have declined to do so. Instead they have said that Congress should decide what controls they want.

TAX DODGE ON FLIGHTS CAN SAVE FAMILY £200

This is an article from April, so some may have already picked up on it, but I thought it was interesting, firstly to save paying tax to the government, but also to highlight the ridiculous nature of attempts to try to force changes in behaviour by using taxes in one country. The government naively think "few people will try to avoid the tax", but the French say 600,000 already do!

CHINA AND INDIA OPPOSE 2050 EMISSIONS CUTS

Further details of the thinking of developing nations such as India and China on GW can be found in this article. One telling statement was from Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh who said "economic growth must take priority over climate change mitigation". Marthinus van Schalkwyk, South Africa's environment minister added, "We must still deal with their (the developed nations) historical responsibility". In other words they are saying we don't think climate change is a top priority and we want you (the developed nations) to take the pain while we carry on developing and catch you up. It sounds much more like a world social engineering project than an urgent bid to "save the planet".
We know that the developing nations' emissions are rising dramatically and so whatever we decide to do in the West, we can have no significant effect on the level of CO2 in the atmosphere. All we will do is give away our wealth and our jobs to these countries, and all for nothing!

WORLD LEADERS EMISSION CUTS FARCE

This Telegraph article sums up the situation after the latest climate change summit of major nations in Japan. Just as we all new beforehand, the developing nations want the developed nations to do all the cutting while they carry on developing with impunity. Thw West has fallen for a social engineering project and now the only solution is a massive fudge. No one really believes in catastrophic global warming least of all the developing world (or else they would act on emissions now), but it is a handy stick to beat the West with.

GW - INDIA SAYS NO PROOF AND NO CUTS

This article in the Australian Herald gives a summary of the Indian policy on tackling "climate change". The article says that the Indians have seen no evidence of climate change nor any evidence of human involvement and they have no intention of cutting back on their emissions until they reach the same level per capita as the West.

CLIMATE MODELS VERSUS REALITY

HERE is a very interesting lecture by Professor Fred Singer. It is a short video which highlights the difference between what climate models predict and what scientific observations actually show. The evidence is pretty conclusive.

In part 2 Prof. Singer goes on to show recent scientific evidence that suggests that cosmic radiation controls the climate affected by changes in the Sun's magnetic field which in turn affect clouds. It all fits neatly and is explained clearly with graphs and diagrams.

This article in today's Telegraph blog by Sam Talbot adds to the growing number of people and bodies warning of the impending folly being foisted on to the British people by a government largely ignorant of the scientific criteria on which such a decision should be based. AUSSIE INSURANCE LOSSES NOT AFFECTED BY GW

We are constantly being told that one of the main indicators of global warming is the increase in the incidents of major climate extremes, which are measured by increases in insurance claims. Here is a paper which has studied the figures in Australia and says "The collective evidence reviewed suggests that societal factors – dwelling numbers and values – are the predominant reasons for increasing insured losses due to natural hazards in Australia. The impact of human-induced climate change on insured losses is not detectable at this time. Yet another myth debunked by actual evidence.

CLIMATE MODELS FAILING YET AGAIN

Actual scientific observation is showing yet again the shortcomings of the much hyped "climate models". This report explains how scientists have found that the ozone over the Mid-Atlantic is being destroyed by 50% more than predicted by the computer models. This in turn leads to a reduction of methane resulting in a reduced greenhouse effect. It is becoming increasingly clear that the models are flawed (see here, here and here) in a number of ways and cannot be a reliable guide to climate prediction.

MADNESS

Again the EU Referendum blog, superbly written by the indefatigable Richard North, has described the windpower folly precisely.

THE ANSWER IS NOT BLOWING IN THE WIND

LATEST OPINION POLL CONFIRMS PUBLIC SCEPTICAL OF GW

This Observer article confirms that, despite all the relentless propaganda, the general public do not swallow the GW theory. Poll after poll tells the same story. The more hysterical and one-sided the claims, the more unconvincing they sound; particularly when in the real world, temperatures are not rising but falling! As the public see the massive cost of the measures proposed by government to "combat" it, they are bound to question the basis of the claims being made; scepticism could soon turn to anger.

HISTORIC CO2 LEVEL DATA DECEPTION

Why do scientists who support the CO2 theory of global warming only use measurements of CO2 levels taken from ice cores to reconstruct past levels, when there are large numbers of well documented actual measurements made by scientists from as far back as 1812? The answer is in order to manipulate and deceive, according to This report by Dr. Zbigniew Jaworowski which explains that scientific measurements of CO2 levels show that between 1880 and 1940, when global temperatures increased by 0.5C, levels of CO2 increased from 290ppm to 440ppm (about 60ppm higher than today).

Between 1949 and 1970 global temperature decreased by 0.3C and the CO2 level dropped to 330ppm. Today when man-made CO2 emissions are 30 times higher than in 1980 the CO2 level is similar to that in the 1930's.

The paper referred to is essential reading for any climate realist. It is a quite shocking inditement of the establishment scientists of today. Will we ever believe a government scientist again?

"CIVIL SOCIETY" SAYS EU MUST STOP CLIMATE CHANGE

At the EU Agora (see post for June 11) , "Civil Society" (consisting of 99% committed climate alarmists) made a vast number of suggestions on how to stop climate changing, from the very low key - reducing washing up, to issuing carbon ration cards to every household. The final text of the Agora is available here, though, to be honest, I would not recommend reading it unless you really have nothing to do. The really alarming thing is that there are almost 500 people who are so brain-washed that they really believe that armageddon is just around the corner, and yet, astonishingly, they also believe that our salvation is at hand if only the EU and the World adopt their solutions. We also heard from a US professor who believed that all humans should become vegetarian.

EU CONSULTS "CIVIL SOCIETY" ON GW

On Thursday I will be in Brussels attending something called an Agora. It is a type of conference organised by the EU to which 500 non-governmental organisations are invited. I have been asked to represent The Freedom Association.

The Agora website lists all the participants and also has a comment section for them. The pre-conference on-line discussions clearly show that the vast majority of those invited are fully signed up to the alarmist agenda. Already the Friends of the Earth representative has suggested that I should be banned (scroll to bottom of the link). If you have time, read the pre-conference Working Papers and you will get a clear idea of the mind-set of those in charge of the EU. The conference ends on Friday evening and I will post my impressions on my return.

In a recent Financial Mail (not on line) is an article: "Green tax to push fuel bills up £400" It explains "the huge increase is expected to be phased in by 2020" A key driver is the government's decision to accept an EU directive to generate 20% of its energy by 2020 through renewables - wind, wave and water power.

I AM CLEARED IN STANDARDS INQUIRY

I can now reveal that I have been investigated (at considerable taxpayers expense) over allegations that I failed to register interests in so-called "bodies" in connection with the campaign to keep Al Gore's film out of schools. The complaint was made by a political opponent whose only "evidence" was an article in a newspaper linking me with a website straightteaching, and a small political party called the New Party. I believe his real objection was not about me registering an interest, but about my views of the Al Gore film and global warming alarmism.

The investigation by a barrister has cleared me of any wrong-doing. The case has resulted in considerable local publicity, which has highlighted further the importance of keeping political balance in schools - for which I must thank the complainant. For those who have an odd hour to spare the whole report is available here.

WHER DO THE LEADING NATIONS STAND ON GW?

This article gives a simple guide to where they currently stand ahead of talks to get a new treaty in place by 2009 to replace Kyoto. Unless the West cave in and let the developing nations off the hook, it is looking as though no progress will be made. I expect some sort of partial cave in will occur and a Kyoto mark two will emerge promising fantastic cuts in CO2 in the future when all the current leaders have long left the scene. Even though the targets will never be met we will all feel the pain nevertheless.

CARBON RATIONING - A STEP TOO FAR

Even the government has baulked at the idea of introducing personal carbon rationing. This report says that they regard it as too complex, and unfair. ROYAL SOCIETY TRIES TO STIFLE DEBATE ON GW

This article in the New York Sun explains how the Royal Society, a UK body that is supposed to promote the highest ideals of science, has adopted a totally one-sided approach to global warming. While it might be understandable that the mainstream media wants to promote an alarmist message (as it wants dramatic news to attract the viewer), the Royal Society should always be open to any genuine scientific research whatever its conclusion. On the other hand, the question of where it gets its funding needs to be asked. If it's the government, which I believe it is, then their independence must be very questionable.

This article from the Daily Mail gives a balanced look at the growing of this bio-fuel crop. The arguments are finely balanced, and in a free market it should be the farmers decision. Global warming gives the state more opportunities to intervene than ever before, and it looks as though the state is going to take it.

3 CHEERS FOR BORIS

Here in this excellent article are many good reasons to be cheerful about Boris Johnson being elected Mayor of London. First it proves that it is possible to be sceptical of the current theory and be elected, in spite of your scepticism being put clearly before the voters.

This should encourage the many other climate sceptics to say what they think. Let's hope that, having won, Boris is going to continue to cut back on Livingstone's excessive policies in this area. He has already pledged to scrap the outrageous £25 per day charge on the vehicles emitting the highest CO2 levels which would be an excellent start.

BARRETTBELLAMYCLIMATE

I have recently come across this site and although it has some challenging science, it also succeeds in explaining a lot of it rather well. I have added a permanent reference to it on the side bar links. There is a lot of interesting material on the site and I recommend it.

SHELL TRIES TO SELL ITS STAKE IN WORLD'S LARGEST WIND FARM

This article in the Daily Mail seems to indicate cold feet over the project as costs keep rising and the Earth keeps cooling. Can the government be trusted to keep its cash handouts going as finances get tighter?

CAMPAIGN TO SUE AL GORE UNDERWAY

This report gives the details. I await the case with eager anticipation. I hope they will be as successful as the court case here in the UK against showing his film to schools.

NEW COMPUTER MODEL PREDICTS GW TO STOP UNTIL 2015

This Telegraph report explains the inherent weakness of climate modelling with computers. Every time they do it and it doesn't turn out as predicted it weakens the argument for accepting them. The public are already getting one step ahead of the "experts". If only the politicians would catch on!

TOP US SCIENTIST IN JOB THREAT OVER GW VIEWS

This article explains how William Grey, a world leader in hurricane forecasting was put under pressure for his sceptic views on climate change.

MOST US VOTERS NOT INTERESTED IN GW

So this article says. In which case why are so many US political leaders promising such costly and damaging cuts to CO2?

CO2 EMISSIONS OR CHEAPER ENERGY?

This report on the excellent EU Referendum blog shows that the Italians at least are choosing cheaper energy. Who can blame them for showing common sense.

HUMANS ALMOST BECAME EXTINCT DUE TO CLIMATE CHANGE

Scientists have studied the DNA of ancient African tribes. Apparently the results show that the Human Race went down to below 2,000 about 70,000BC, due to severe droughts at the time. It just shows that climate change has always been with us.

CO2 LEVELS GO ON RISING

This report confirms what we already expected which is that CO2 levels in the atmosphere are continuing to rise. Methane levels too are increasing after remaining static for many years. The interesting thing, of course, is that global temperatures have not gone in the same direction. Yet more evidence that CO2 levels are not driving climate.

BEWARE ALARMIST DECEPTION ON CLIMATE

Here's an innocent looking document which has been signed by dozens of councils. The first thing which struck me about it was how small the print was and with a dark blue background how hard it is to read. Just coincidence, or is there an ulterior motive? Some of the content is unremarkable, but some looks very like government propaganda, such as "We welcome the emission targets agreed by Central Government...." Really? Not me! I don't welcome a unilateral 60% cut in emissions. That would seriously weaken the UK economy, push prices sky high, and hand our jobs and industry to China and India who have no intention of following suit. I wonder how many councillors really believe in what they have signed? Or have they been mislead into signing what they were told was merely a call to be more environmentally friendly?

ASTEROID THREAT - NEW WORRY FOR ALARMISTS

According to this report a German schoolboy proved there is a 450:1 chance of a collision between Earth and an asteroid in 2036. Maybe this will take their minds off GW.

CENSORSHIP, DECEIT AND PROPAGANDA

Here's an interesting article showing how the media seem to be conspiring to keep all other arguments away from the public which do not accord with the man-made CO2 theory.

HYDROGEN FUELLED CAR A STEP NEARER

This article explains the progress being made to convert sugars into hydrogen using a range of special enzymes. Clearly a lot of work is going into these ideas.

REALITY OF "SAVING THE PLANET" DAWNS

This Telegraph reporter comes face to face with the realities of a "green" lifestyle. The report is touching in its naivety. If man-made CO2 was the cause of global warming we are all doomed - lucky then that there is good evidence that it is not!

FOOD OR FUEL?

This interesting article highlights the dilemma we now face of whether to grow crops for bio fuels, or for food. It mentions the massive increase in the world's population projected to increase from 6.5 billion to over 9 billion by the middle of the century. This is the elephant in the room - completely ignored by the world's leaders when concentrating almost entirely on global warming.

CHINA CONFIRMED AS TOP CO2 EMITTER

This BBC report confirms what most people already knew - that China emits more CO2 than the USA. What is more, they are gathering pace at an astonishing rate and have no intention of stopping, making a complete mockery of any talks to try and reduce CO2 emissions. See where the Chinese are coming from in my earlier post. This is nothing more than a political game.

ANTARCTIC SURVEY REPORT INCONCLUSIVE ON GW

This report by the British Antarctic Survey is fairly comprehensive and well worth reading to get a picture of what is known. As far as man-made global warming is concerned it is inconclusive. In other words there is no proof of it.

TOP SCIENTISTS ASK IPCC TO DUMP CO2 THEORY

This letter from four leading scientists asks the IPCC to look again at the lack of credible evidence to show that CO2 drives our climate, and to disassociate themselves from it. The letter is copied to a number of leading politicians, including Gordon Brown. The pressure is mounting.

NEW EVIDENCE - HURRICANES NOT LINKED TO GW

This report of new research by one of the world's leading experts on hurricanes is more evidence that the intensity of hurricanes is not linked to global warming. Another favourite icon of the alarmists falls.

MISSING CLOUDS UNDERMINE GW THEORY

A climate scientist has discovered that the atmosphere does not behave in the way computer models are designed by climate scientists to predict the future climate. The unexpected finding is further evidence that we do not understand enough about the climate. If the assumptions built in to the models are incorrect, then the forecasts are obviously also likely to be wrong.

BIO-FUEL FROM GRASS COULD BE AS CHEAP AS CHIPS

Technology is improving all the time, and this report explains how plant material like grass may be suitable to make bio-fuels when enzymes that can break down cellulose become available in about 5 years time.

IS THIS THE END FOR GW THEORY?

This remarkably clear article explains the latest science which offers a new credible alternative explanation of how the climate behaves. It is a rebuttle of the current global warming alarmism, and includes clear explanations of how the warmists got it wrong. Coming along to coincide with a decade which has seen the actual global temperature go down, this could be the breakthrough to save the planet from the misery of carbon deprivation.

This has struck the alarmists like a thunderbolt, especially as the lead author of the IPCC chapter on feedback has written to the author of the research agreeing that he is right!

RESPECTED PROFESSOR COMES OUT AGAINST GW THEORY

Another respected academic has, despite threats to his integrity, had the courage to come out and state his view that the global warming CO2 theory lacks sufficient evidence in his view, according to this report in the Australian.

LORD LAWSON NOT ALONE!

The following is taken from "Greenie Watch"

An email from Lord David Howell [howelld@parliament.uk]

"Many commentators on Lawson have obviously not read the book I published last summer, in my capacity as deputy leader of the Conservatives in the House of Lords, which warned against climate and green hysteria and pointed to a more balanced way forward. The book, 'Out of the Energy Labyrinth' is published by I.B. Tauris. I am in Tokyo today, launching the Japanese edition. Lord Lawson is definitely not alone!"

WINDPOWER - 29% BY 2030?

This article on world energy gives some very interesting predictions of how the world's electrical energy is to be produced in the future. The estimates must be looked at with a great deal of scepticism; for example one body predicts windpower will make up 29%, whereas another suggests 3.5%. Such a wide variation suggests that we simply cannot predict what is going to happen. Technology is changing so rapidly that by 2030 the whole picture could easily change completely.

TED TURNER - SHOULD ANYONE LISTEN TO HIM?

As the founder of CNN Ted Turner is given a much bigger platform than many other would-be commentators, particularly as his remarks are so controversial. For example he suggests that Global warming will lead to cannibalism . You can read more here, if you can spare the time.

GOVERNMENT PUBLISHES PAPER PREDICTING GLOBAL COOLING TO 2020

Melanie Philips, in her excellent article in the Spectator, has found a link on the UK government Treasury website to a paper predicting global temperatures to cool by 1.5C by 2020. The question is - if they have posted the paper, why have they not accepted its message?

THE DENIERS - A MESSAGE TO THE WORLD

This article from the National Post reviews a new book about some eminent climate scientists who have gone on record to say that they do not accept the CO2 theory of climate change. If a handful of world renowned experts are saying something, then the world surely should pause and listen.

US EXTREMISTS WANT CO2 DECLARED A POLLUTANT

This article explains how a group of extreme global warming alarmists are taking legal action to try to get CO2 declared a pollutant. The case is being strongly fought by a coalition of others. If successful, it would mean many thousands of small businesses would need to obtain expensive permits to carry on.

THE TROUBLE WITH BIO FUELS

This article looks at the unintended consequences of the dash for bio fuels. Far from saving the planet, they are causing many new problems.

BBC SUCCUMBS TO PRESSURE ON CLIMATE STORY

Many people have strongly suspected that the BBC has been promoting propaganda in support of the theory linking CO2 increase to global warming. This story appears to have the evidence to back this up. If the claim is true then it is a shocking revelation of bias and manipulation of the news. We have to treat every news story with a degree of scepticism.

In the article the alarmist who puts pressure on the BBC says all the heat is in the oceans - well not according to this story!

EU EMISSIONS SCHEME FAILING

This report from EU Referendum Blog highlights the latest statistics released about the EU Emissions Trading Scheme, and it's not good news. Just extra costs for no saving on emissions.

PUBLIC TO PAY £3 BILLION TO SAVE ENERGY

Yet another report indicating how the public is set for big increases in cost to pay for the government's plan to cut CO2 emissions.

GW - THE FINAL SOLUTION

This article explains how geo-engineering could save the planet from the worst of global warming. But there are many questions, such as what happens if it causes side-effects. Controlling the climate could in itself cause massive problems, endless squabbles over the temperature, rainfall, wind etc. It reminds me of the story of King Midas being given the power to turn everything into gold. Interfering with the world's climate could be a bigger disaster than putting up with it.

ICE SHELF COLLAPSE A NATURAL EVENT

Here's an interesting article from Ice Cap which exposes the hype of scientists to attribute any visual event to "climate change" without presenting any evidence to back up the claim. They know that journalists will lap up these reports without question. The unsuspecting public and journalists are being duped. Read the report to see how it happened.

A VOICE OF REASON

Lord Lawson has a new book out in which he once more shows he is a voice of reason on the issue of climate change. As one of our most repected senior politicians, Nigel Lawson's views should attract a wide audience and give pause for thought to those who unquestioningly follow the catastrophic predictions of the alarmists.

FOOD MILES - 'JUST PROTECTIONISM'

This article by Dominic Lawson in the Independent explains why "food miles" are not the only factor to be considered when buying food. Well said!

EXPLODING STARS INFLUENCE CLIMATE

Here is an interesting report about a scientific experiment demonstrating the effect of cosmic rays on cloud formation. Experiments that can be verified are more convincing than computer programmes which only give a hypothetical forecast of climate.

ZERO CARBON HOMES?

Can anyone define the meaning of the term "zero carbon home"? This article talks about it but admits that there is, apparently, no actual definition. Personally I am not surprised by this, as there is no clear definition of "climate change" either; in fact the whole subject is a massive foggy area which allows for all sorts of spurious claims to be made, and no one can disprove any of them. One thing we do know is that "zero carbon homes" will cost more to build, which is a big draw back for potential buyers. I ought to point out that I am in favour of sensible measures to improve insulation and have efficient heating, but "zero Carbon" is just a fictional soundbite.

AUSSIES SPEND $36 MILLION TO STORE CO2

This article explains this costly pilot plant to investigate the technology. It does not say what extra cost this would add to peoples electricity.

CHINA DEMANDS $66 BILLION A YEAR TO CUT CO2

In the negotiations to replace the Kyoto Treaty, the Chinese are demanding massive payments from the USA and other developed nations of 0.5% 0f GDP according to this report in order to cut their CO2 emissions. Here we can see the real price the West is being asked to pay without any guarantee that it will get any benefit in return. It is as if the Chinese are playing a game of blackmail - pay up or the planet gets it! The idea that nations are responsible for the past, when there was no knowledge of any theory linking CO2 to climate change is similar to the idea of retrospective payments to the descendants of slaves. It is something that must be resisted, or if accepted it will open the floodgates to thousands of claims.

OLD SOLAR CYCLE HANGS ON

Although I reported the other day that the new solar cycle (24) had started, it is now clear from the NASA website that sunspots from the old cycle are still appearing. This means we are likely to see the new cycle in 2012 with activity remaining low until then.

AUSSIES TO PAY HIGH PRICE FOR CARBON TRADING

This report in the Australian sets out the situation on energy prices. Like others they will pay a high price for a carbon trading scheme which is supposed to reduce emsissions of CO2. They will soon find that the effect will be to force up prices for energy that people will have to buy.

UP TO DATE SUMMARY OF THE SCIENCE

This excellent and readable summary covers both the latest science and the arguments why the CO2 theory does not add up. Essential reading for those who want a good grounding in the subject. I am going to put it as the top link on my list of links.

GREEN ENERGY CAUSES TOWN TO SINK

This Telegraph story concerns a German town which hired engineers to drill down to extract geothermal heat. This has caused subsidence. Just shows the unintended consequences that can occur - rather like the consequences of trying to rid the economy of carbon.

GORE'S $300 MILLION PROPAGANDA CAMPAIGN

After his film was found by a High Court judge to be an exercise in propaganda,
Al Gore is planning more of the same, this time on prime time TV. Where are the adverts to counteract this, I wonder?

HUMAN RIGHT NOT TO CHANGE CLIMATE

No, this is not an April Fool's joke!
The UN is considering the Human Rights aspect of climate change. It looks like this will be used to bring law suits against those companies and governments who emit greenhouse gases, on the grounds that they are changing the climate. To succeed they would surely need to prove that the adverse effects of climate change were directly caused by man-made CO2. Sounds like a sure-fired winner for the lawyers. Last time a High Court Judge ruled on climate change he found that Al Gore had exaggerated his case.

Of course in respect of sea level rise, we know that this is already occurring and has been going on for centuries; so how on Earth will anyone be able to sort out the natural element from the so-called man-made element? Not only that but whose CO2 would be blamed? It beggars belief!
