When the government and most of the media concentrate on alarmism, this site is the antidote for those who don't believe the scare stories - YOU ARE NOT ALONE! (blog started on 7/11/07) We have over 3 million hits and blog is updated regularly most days.

UK AID MONEY FINANCES 'DIRTY COAL' PLANTS
This article reveals the ridiculous and hypocritical policies of the government towards its environmental policy. At home we demand our energy companies comply with the strictest emission policies in the world, and at the same time we give aid money to third world projects to build coal-fired power plants to produce cheaper energy to supply our competitors.

EPA DRIVE UP US ELECTRICITY PRICES WITH MERCURY SCARE
This storyserves as a warning that there are strong forces at work in government to try to drive up the price of fossil fuel energy by any means in their attempt to get rid of it in favour of unreliable and expensive wind turbines.

UEA GIVEN A DRUBBING BY THE INFORMATION COMMISSIONER
This article by Steve McIntyre on the Climate Audit Blog gives details of a ruling by the UK Information Commissioner forcing the University of East Anglia to hand over its Temperature Station Data, which it had tried every trick in the book to avoid doing. Now after almost 2 years of dogged determination and various appeals Professor Jonathan Jones (Not of course to be confused with Prof Phil Jones, head of the UEA Climate Research Unit) has finally got the decision. When you read this case you have to wonder why a publicly funded university doing research into a matter of such importance should wish to conceal such fundamental information from other academics - that is unless they have something to hide!
THE COST OF ELECTRICITY GOES UP AND UP
This article refers to the extra cost of building a host of new gas-fired power stations as back up for the thousands of wind turbines currently being built with massive subsidies pushing the cost of electricity ever higher. When will the public realise they are being fleeced and seriously complain, or even take to the streets?

AN OPEN LETTER TO SIR PAUL NURSE
This article looks at the words of Sir Paul Nurse, the President of the Royal Society who in a recent article claims to believe there should be more openness and transparency in science. The writer takes Sir Paul at his word and call on him to put pressure on the IPCC to deliver. It seems clear that they have no intention of doing so.

LIES, DAMNED LIES AND CLIMATE STATISTICS
Prof. Phil Jones (he of the CRU email scandal) is often quoted as saying that there has been "no statistically significant warming since 1995". Now he has come forward to say that when 2010 is included in the data the warming has become "significant", and this new statement from him is being widely quoted on pro-warmist blogs. Here on the excellent GWPF website is an article that discusses this particular statistic in detail. Interestingly the article points out that there is no doubt that from 2001 to 2010 there has still been no statistically significant warming, so tell that to the warmists.

WHY CO2 IS NOT A PROBLEM
This article in the Express refers to the views of climate scientist David Evans who maintains that the effect of CO2 on climate is small. Now we have had no statistically significant global temperature change for the past 15 years (according to Prof Phil Jones of UK Climate Research Unit) people are starting to take more notice of him.

PACIFIC ISLANDS ARE OK
Here is an article to reassure the low lying Pacific islanders who are worried about being swamped by rising sea levels. Apparently the islands are rising at the same rate (ie very slowly!) as sea level. That will be a great relief to the Czeck Republic who are currently being sued by Micronesia for causing their demise by emitting CO2.

PACIFIC ISLAND TO SUE CZECH REPUBLIC OVER COAL POWER STATION

PRESIDENT OF ROYAL SOCIETY ASKS FOR F.O.I. RULES TO BE CHANGED
This piece looks at Sir Paul Nurse's article in the Guardian in which he protests about the 'misuse' of freedom of information requests. In the Bishop Hill link his accusations are shown to be hollow, and as the article goes on to say - he seems to be against making scientific data available so that it can be replicated. Not a very scientific approach for the head of a scientific body.

THE REAL 'CLIMATE CHANGE' AGENDA
This website draws together dozens of organisations world wide including Friends of the Earth and Christian Aid. It seeks to bring about the end of capitalism and create a new world order. While I doubt they are anywhere near to achieving these goals it is clear that they are now the views of what are regarded as mainstream organisations, supported by many world leaders (at least in public). In fact there are hardly any leaders who would publicly speak against them. All those who are interested in the future of world politics should read this site as it is quite likely to be the long term future for us.

HOT CLIMATE FOR HUHNE - SCIENTIIFIC CONSENSUS CRACKING OVER GW
This article in the Mail deals mainly with UK Climate Minister, Chris Huhne being accused by his ex-wife of getting her to take his speeding points; but at the end of it is a piece about the disastrous UK climate policies in which the author points out that scientists are now having serious doubts about the cause of the climate warming. UK GOVERNMENT COMMIT TO 16 BILLION A YEAR ON DECARB.
This article< explains the detail. The paragraph below gives a flavour, and the costs which we will all be paying - far greater than the cuts the government have inflicted on us so far. When will we see the protest marches?
"The committee's report says the new carbon deal will require that heat pumps will have had to be installed in 2.6m homes by 2025. It also says that by the same date 31% of new cars, and 14% of those on the road overall, will be electric. Experts say a total of £16bn of investment will be needed every year to meet the commitment. Some of this money will be raised through increases in electricity prices"

UK GOVERNMENT TO CUT FUNDING TO CLIMATE GROUP
I wish I could report that the government were actually going to save money on climate alarmist propaganda, but I fear it is only cutting funding to one group to spend more elsewhere. CLIMATE ALARMISTS CRYING WOLF ON SEA LEVEL AGAIN!
Climate alarmists have been caught out yet again releasing 'leaked reports' showing that sea levels are rising 'three times as fast' as predicted. We are engaged in a propaganda war in which pseudo-science is used as a weapon.

AUSSIE VOTERS REJECT CARBON TAX BY 2 TO 1
This report looks at how unpopular this proposed tax has become in the latest opinion polls. The Australian public have now had time to look at the arguments and they don't like the look of it. PM Gillard only got re-elected (by the narrowest margin) by lying when she denied that she would impose such a tax. She would be very foolish to go ahead now and risk the voters anger at the next election.

WIND FARMS PAID £900,000 NOT TO PRODUCE ELECTRICITY
We always knew that it would be difficult to balance the grid with increasing amounts of wind turbines giving erratic amounts, but this report tells us that over one night in April, due to strong winds in Scotland, the grid paid out a total of £900,000 to six wind farms not to produce electricity. No wonder our electricity bill are going up so much. Although the report is on the BBC website, I do not recall it being on the main news bulletins. I wonder why?

COLD SPELL PREDICTION COMES A STEP CLOSER

CLIMATE CHANGE BUREAUCRACY HITTING UK BUSINESS
This report explains how government red tape on carbon reduction laws is putting onerous new burdens on UK businesses. No doubt this will grow as the tentacles spread down from larger firms to smaller ones, all required to file detailed reports of their carbon emissions. It is this sort of thing that will inevitably lead to higher costs for UK businesses which will be passed on to the consumer in higher prices. More firms will either go out of business or re-locate abroard in less onerous countries. All this will cost jobs, rise prices, and all for nothing, as China and India power away at our expense.

MASSIVE USA OIL RESERVES
When we hear that oil is running out and so, regardless of the valdity of the global warming theory, we must find new sources of energy, just look at this report, and this one One has to ask - just what is the point of leaving such massive reserves in the ground when utilising them would go along way to wiping out the country's national debt.

THE TANGLED WEB OF OUR 'HIDDEN' CO2
If you thought that calculating a nation's CO2 emissions was a difficult task, just read this newsletter from the Scientific Alliance is a real eye-opener. If the question of our 'hidden CO2' was to be taken seriously then we will need to impoverish ourselves to a far greater degree than even our government would get away with. The whole ridiculous charade of climate alarm prevention would fall apart like a house of cards. As the newsletter says, we would also be impoverishing the emerging nations who currently supply our imports.

IPCC - MORE PROPAGANDA THAN SCIENCE
This article from a brilliant blog "Frakking Consensus" highlights the reason why we should be very wary of the IPCC's claims that they are the "gold standard of climate science", when in fact their leadership are packed with people whose main qualifications are as advocates of global warming alarmism driven, naturally, by mankinds CO2 emissions. No less than propaganda dressed up as science.

GIGO
Garbidge in garbidge out, as the saying goes. This piece looks at a recent paper that claimed there had been a massive drop in the ocean's planckton in the last 70 years, and of course this was attributed to global warming. The author was very sceptical of the claims, and recent information has proved that he was correct to be. The lesson here is that we should not be quick to accept way out claims. Scientists should remain sceptical until clear evidence is provided.

LIES, PROPAGANDA AND THE BBC
Here's an article that should cause you to be concerned. It shows the close links between the BBC and climate activist organisations such as WWF, Greenpeace, and Christian Aid.
Further information is on this post. And for even more of the same sort of thing this post on EUREferendum will put your blood pressure off the scale. All this shows how deeply embedded the climate alarmism has become. It is without doubt huge, and since there never can be a difinitive repudiation of it, it is not going to go away easily. More likely it will just fade from our front pages, but the legacy of massive cost will be with us for much longer.

CASHING IN ON CARBON CREDITS
Further to Friday's article on theNorth East Power station being mothballed (partially), we now have the real reason for the action courtesy of EUReferendum, which is (of course) that the power company is doing this to amass a large amount of carbon credits, saving the company a lot of money. I wonder whether the consumers will gain anything out of this?
More on this here in the Sunday Telegraph.

IPCC OPENS DOOR TO DODGY SOURCES
Despite the massive amount of criticism levelled at the IPCC for including unreliable information in its last report, it has revised its guidelines, leaving the way open to further similar information going into its next one. UK POWER PLANT 'MOTHBALLED' AS IMPORTS ARE CHEAPER
This report is interesting, as it suggests that we are importing cheaper electricity. Presumably this must be nuclear power from France; if so it must be cheaper than wind or solar, but of course these are still being given massive subsisides. We are truly living in an upside down world.

PORTUGAL - A LESSON FROM A GREEN ECONOMY
This post should be a lesson to all those who want to rush into a so-called "green" economy. If your economy is in a crisis, going "green" is one way of turning that crisis into an even deeper one leading to having to go cap in hand for a bail out. How much more of this madness will it take for governments to take notice?

UK GOVERNMENT SOLAR PROJECT CANCELLED
This article in the Telegraph explains that plans to put solar panels on public buildings has been cancelled due to the government having reduced the subsidy paid to such projects. In other words the government cannot afford to subsidise itself! Quite right! In any case it's not the government that is paying - it's us!

MORE ALARMIST PREDICTIONS COME UNSTUCK
This report looks at claims made in 2005 that millions of "climate refugees" would be leaving certain nations which they claimed would be severely affected by such things as sea level rise, drought, floods etc. Unfortunately for the alarmists, none of this has happened.

SOME EXCELLENT CLIMATE TALKS BY LEADING SCIENTISTS
Dr David Evans gives a talk to an audience opposed to the Australian emissions tax which PM Julia Gillard has now decided to introduce, having ruled it out prior to the general election in which she just clung on to power with the help of a couple of independents and a Green.
In this talk by Professor Richard Lindzen he gives his expert view on the global warming arguments.

CO2 EMISSION TRADING SCHEMES TO UNITE
This report explains that the EU are trying to link up with the Californian ETS. This sounds like an attempt to show a united front to the public, in order to make them believe that it is an inevitable thing, but the public will start to askquestions once they realise that such schemes will make them more uncompetitive compared to the many other parts of the world that do not have them. Manufacturing with one hand tied behind your back seems like a fair comparison. Why would the EU want to draw attention to any similarities with California, a state that is almost bankrupt, is a mystery.

ANOTHER CAUSE FOUND FOR RECENT WARMING
Yes, this article in the GWPF highlights new research that suggests that water vapour in the stratosphere increased between 1980 and 2000 and this could account for about one third of the recent warming. So it is likely that nature, not man, is controling the climate.

SMART METERS NOT SO GREAT AFTER ALL
This piece in the Telegraph looks at the savings likely to come from smart electric meters which are to be installed in all homes from 2014 to 2019. The paltry £23 per year saving is dwarfed by the huge rises coming as a result of attempts to reduce CO2 emissions.
The Mail has even more frightening figures for the cost of the scheme. The trouble is, we seem to have no definite idea of the cost, just as with most large government projects.

The Spectator debate resulted in a convincing win by Nigel Lawson's side against a warmist team including Sir David King. It seems that whenever a debate is held on global warming it is won by the sceptics. This cannot be a coincidence - could it be that the warmist arguments are weak?

LATEST UK BUDGET GIVES £3 BILLION OF OUR TAXES TO A GREEN ELITE

US ATTORNEY GENERAL BATTLES CLIMATE SCIENCE ESTABLISHMENT
This report gives an update into the battle by Attorney General, Ken Cuccinelli, into the possible dishonest goings on of Professor Michael Mann, whose Hockey Stick graph has been roundly criticised by many scientists. It is not surprising that scientists are closing ranks to try to prevent Cucinelli from getting his hands on the evidence, as they all have a lot to lose.

INCONVENIENT FALSE PREDICTIONS COME HOME TO ROOST
The trouble with making dramatic predictions that grab headlines is that if you get it wrong you have to pay the price in terms of credibility. Al Gore has made a number of them in his film An Inconvenient Truth, including one that the Kilimanjaro glaciers would be gone in a decade. This article highlights that this was way out. The glaciers will be around for about another 50 years.

US HAS EARTH'S LARGEST ENERGY RESERVES
So why are most of them 'off limits'? This article takes you through the arguments. The evidence is provided by a Congressional Research paper that has been recently published. It certainly makes me wonder why the USA goes to so much trouble to import their fuel when they are sitting right on top of it.

NEW UK CARBON TAX COULD UNDERMINE INDUSTRY
This article on the BBC website explains the concerns of energy intensive industry to the first such tax in the world to be imposed on carbon emissions. What madness can grip a government so that it imposes crippling extra charges on its industries while trying to get the country back on its feet?

THE STRANGE CASE OF SARI KOVATS
"Sari Kovats?", I hear you say, "Who on earth is she?" Well actually she is one of the leading authors in the IPCC, no less! This article looks closely at her qualifications and experience for such a senior position and finds her wanting in both aspects. It seems strange why such an obviously inexperienced and under qualified person should be put into such a prestigious position and then rapidly promoted. Maybe we will find out if Donna Laframboise does some more of her excellent detective work. Her blog is well worth reading and I am going to add it to my blog roll.

GAS IS THE FUTURE
Even before the Japanese reactor problems, according to this report the arrival of the new shale gas technology has made the decision financially much better for gas. As the evidence for CO2 causing any climate change gets weaker the case for gas becomes overwhelming.

EU CLIMATE CHANGE POLICY EXPERT FLOUNDERS IN INTERVIEW
Here is an exerpt from an Australian radio show in which Jill Duggan, a British woman who is introduced as a climate change policy expert. The part where Jill is interviewed is about halfway. If you play the clip you will understand why climate change experts are so reluctant to take part in any combative interviews, as they are so easily shown up. This 'expert' was found to have no idea what the cost of reducing carbon emissions would have on the UK or the European economy; she had no idea what effect the cuts would have on future temperatures. Of course this is not surprising because short of making up figures she had no choice but to admit she had no idea. There are no figures other than estimates, and those do not support her argument.

MANN & CO FEEL THE HEAT
The flawed and weak inquiries into the climategate scandal have been reported on this blog many times. It appeared that despite the damning emails the scientists themselves had got away with it. But that may not be so according to this report in WUWT Blog. The net seems to be tightening - let's hope the truth will come out in the end.

A POEM PUTS THE AUSSIE FLOODS IN THEIR PLACE
The recent Queensland floods have prompted the most extreme climate alarmists to say that, like the droughts that preceded them, they are caused by man-made CO2 emissions. This has stretched people's credulity to such limits that they are beginning to have doubts about the whole idea of man-made global warming. Here Clive James looks at a poem beloved by Australians to find the truth about the Australian climate. The truth is, of course, that the climate varies and has always varied from drought to flood without any change in CO2.

UK ENERGY POLICY - USE IT WHEN YOU CAN
This clip from the Telegraph (not on line for some reason) refers to the head of the National Grid talking about a future in which electricity is not always available on demand. It sounds like a policy for political suicide to me, though I think the government could stumble into this situation by accident, but I never thought they would actually plan for it to happen.

COULD CO2 HAVE A COOLING EFFECT?
This paper looks at the science behind the greenhouse theory, and comes to the opposite conclusion to that of the IPCC. The science is not easy to follow unless you are familiar with heat transfer equations, but the fact that scientists can argue for such different conclusions is, in itself, testament to the fact that the science is far from settled.

USA GOVERNMENT MAY SHELVE CLIMATE ACTION
Republicans are putting a lot of pressure on President Obama to cut taxes and reduce funding to the EPA according to this report in the Guardian. If this happens it will mean at least a delay in the enforcement of CO2 emissions control which they are supposed to be bringing in. More on this here.

THE GOVERNMENT'S GREAT GREEN CON TRICK
This article in today's Daily Mail is interesting for the language that is used, as much as the content. It tells us that it is now mainstream to criticise the government's policy on global warming. This has been going on for some timem but it is gaining momentum. How much longer before we get open criticism on television, and by politicians who are ahead of the game. When the power cuts begin, those who have supported this will be as popular as the tyrants in north Africa!

GW GOOD FOR CORALS SAYS NEW RESEARCH
Alarmists don't want us to hear any research that says that there are benefits of a slight warming of the planet, but here is an example of one benefit. When the IPCC only publishes the negative stories it reinforces the point that there is an agenda rather than honest disclosure of the facts.

US GOVERNMENT VOTES NOT TO FUND THE IPCC
Here's the story via an alarmist blog. You can see from their anger that this is hurting them. My fear is that the UK might be daft enough to make up the shortfall. Either that or the EU, who in turn will send the begging bowl round to us anyway. If the USA are not playing the game then we might as well all pack up now since none of the objectives in terms of CO2 reductions can be met. All we will be doing is posturing, convincing ourselves how virtuous we are, while levels of CO2 just go on rising. How pathetic is that?

SHALE GAS WILL CHANGE THE WORLD

ARE FOOD PRICES THE CAUSE OF THE RIOTS IN NORTH AFRICA?
This article by Ambrose Evans-Pritchard seems to suggest so, in which case the argument for ditching the "climate change agenda" is getting rather urgent. There seems little point in indulging in vain attempts to save the planet in 100 years if we have to endure mass hunger through high food prices today.

THE TRUE PRICE OF UK ENERGY

BLOW TO CARBON TRADING AS ISLINGTON GROUP PACKS UP
This article brings the sad news that a small, but dedicated band of planet-saving eco-warriors has decided, after almost four years, that their Carbon Rationing Action Group is not worth continuing. BBC ARE GW PROPAGANDISTS SAYS NEWSREADER, PETER SISSONS
This article is an exerpt from a book by retired newsreader, Peter Sissons. In it he looks at the many instances he has been involved in, in which the bias of the BBC towards the alarmist CO2 hypothesis on global warming was all too evident.
An example of this was seen on Monday evening's Horizon programme on BBC2, in which the new President of the Royal Society gave a one-sided view of why scientists are not trusted (mainly on global warming!) - blaming it on the bloggers and the media for stirring up undeserved bad publicity.

MASSIVE FRAUD IN EU CARBON TRADING SCHEME
"No surprise there", I hear you say.
It has been reported on euractiv.com that up to two million permits have gone missing and been sold on the spot market: Great carbon theft may have netted 14m of permits. This is not the first such problem, but it is the biggest so far. It was caused apparently by phishing scams which have gathered passwords necessary to trade the permits. The seriousness of it has prompted the shutdown of the national carbon registries and hence the ETS itself.
In the same item, it was reported that "Trevor Sikorski, director of carbon markets and environmental products research at Barclays Capital, predicted that the closure could cost carbon traders around 70m per week." To put it another way, a scheme which seems both ineffective and vulnerable to serious fraud is providing profits to traders of 3.5bn a year. All of this, ultimately, is a cost paid by consumers and taxpayers.

BY THEIR WORDS SHALL WE JUDGE THEM
Here is another excellent post from the new website Haunting the Library. As more time passes we will find ever more strident claims from prominent climate scientists will come back to haunt them. As the public learn of more and more failed predictions their confidence in the global warming scare will begin to evaporate. The enormous sums of money being set aside to deal with this non-existent problem will then be under close scrutiny, particularly as prices of fuel and energy are driven up and up.

HANSEN CHOOSES MARXIST DICTATORSHIP OVER DEMOCRACY
Climate scientist and alarmist, James Hansen has stated that to 'solve' the global warming 'problem' we would be better off if democratic governments were replaced by Marxist dictatorships (so long as they support his views, of course!) That is the view of anyone who believes he is right and any other opinion does not count.

QUESTIONS FOR THE MET OFFICE
This article from the Global Warming Policy Foundation looks at the increasingly odd behaviour of the Met Office, resulting in them sending a letter to parliament asking them to answer a number of questions to get to the bottom of what's been going on. One theory being looked at is - did the Met Office deliberately keep their fears about severe weather suppressed because they feared it would undermine their message about global warming at the Cancun climate conference?

WHO SAYS CRIME DOESN'T PAY?
Those following the case of the protestors who planned to shut down a UK coal-fired power station may be angry to learn of The pathetic punishments given out by the judge when they were sentenced yesterday. It was almost pointless taking them to court and wasting £400,000 of taxpayers money. No wonder these nutcases don't fear the law. There is simply nothing to fear. No doubt we can now look forward to much more disruption from these people.

WIND TURBINES FOUND TO BE LESS EFFICIENT
New research has shown that wind turbines are around 25% less efficient than claimed by the industry itself according to this Telegraph report. A BLIZZARD OF LIES IN NY TIMES
This article comes from a great blog which is new to me. Will the Orwellian efforts be successful?

RED FACES AT THE MET OFFICE
This article in the Financial Post of Canada again highlights the folly of attempting long range weather forecasting. The problem fo alarmists is that the whole theory relies on computer forecasts. If they cannot do even relatively short "long term" forecasts, then why would anyone believe their longer term ones?

WHETHER ITS WEATHER OR CLIMATE
I find it rather hilarious to hear the alarmists telling us that we must not point to any individual weather to dismiss their warnings of damaging climate change. The hilarity comes because it is the alarmists themselves who have confidently predicted that we would see much less of certain types of weather and much more of others. This is brought out very well in this piece. It is very satisfying to see smug people squirming.

DIFFERENCES IN THE WORLD'S TEMPERATURE MEASURING SYSTEMS
Unless you bother to look closely you may not be aware that there are several different systems used to compile the average temperature change for the globe and they do not all agree. THE FOLLY OF CANCUN
Here's Chris Monckton giving his verdict of the recent Cancum climate talks in the Telegraph. Without him and Chris Booker just imagine how much worse our knowledge of the truth would be?

NEW PAPER PREDICTS NO TEMP RISE FOR 20 YEARS

OUR DARKEST HOURS TO COME.
Christopher Booker warns us of what the government's energy policy will lead to - a cold dark Britain, unless they are forced into a u-turn; but by then it will be too late.

UK CLIMATE PROTESTORS FOUND GUILTY
A group of climate protestors who planned to occupy and shut down a coal fired power station in Nottingham have been found guilty. This article gives the details. Despite James Hansen being flown over from the USA, this time the jury did not accept a defence of "necessity". It restores your faith in the jury system.

UK ELECTRICITY PRICES TO RISE BY £500 A YEAR
Announcements today by Chris Huhne, the UK climate change minister, will add £500 a year to the average electricity bill according to this Telegraph article. This is definitely on the cards, but because it will take a few years to happen the government are hoping that people will not notice.

GW NOT GUILTY OF FROG DEATHS
This story is a good one for frogs, as they are adapting to survive. It is also good for global warming, as it has now been shown that it is not to blame, despite it being given the blame anyway.

UK ENERGY PRICES TO DOUBLE FROM 2012 TO 2016
UK energy users face a grim future according to this article. Apart from the doubling of electricity and gas bills, businesses also face an extra cost of complying with the government's Carbon Reduction Commitment. Faced with all these extra costs it seems likely that many will be unable to survive.
More on theenergy price rises here.

COAL HAS A BRIGHT FUTURE EXCEPT IN THE UK
Do you ever get the feeling that the UK is out of step with everyone else? This article highlights one glaring difference in the use of coal. While we continue (almost single-handed, it appears!) to try to "save the planet", the rest of it continues to burn coal quite oblivious to the impending meltdown.

STUDENTS TO PAY FOR CANCUN DEAL
That is according to Christopher Booker. What he means is that the sum saved by increasing tuition fees (£2.9 billion) is equal to the amount the UK has agreed to give to a fund to provide wind turbines etc for the third world. There is a certain irony in so far as it is students (or rather a small minority) who join the demonstrations demanding more for the third world. Be careful what you wish for!

SUMMARY OF CANCUM CLIMATE DEAL
Here is a summary of the main points. It all seems very vague, and like EU directives, the UK will not only obey but go beyond the letter, no doubt, like lemmings at the edge of a cliff.

IS A WORLD GOVERNMENT BEING CREATED?
This article gives a condensed version of what is being created at Cancun. If true, it is an alarming development akin to what has happened with the EU as it has taken over more and more powers from the member states under the excuse of creating a single market.

WHY WE MUST HAVE A FREE MEDIA
This piece on James Delingpole's excellent blog has a guest post by Martin Durkin, the producer of the film "The Great Global Warming Swindle" a brilliant critique of the state of climate science. Durkin explains how the warmists, who try to paint themselves as the only source of pure science, are actually preventing any science contrary to their own beliefs from seeing the light of day.

RENEWABLE SUBSIDIES UNDER THE COSH
All over the world governments are realising that the subsidies being given out for renewable energy are too generous. This article gives the details.

UK SHALE GAS FIND NEAR BLACKPOOL
Shale gas, the new type of natural gas, is transforming the fortunes of the gas industry in the USA. Now it has come to the UK - see this article for details. With these new discoveries it looks as though there will be plenty of gas for the foreseeable future. Not the scenario that alarmists want us to believe.

UK CLIMATE COMMITTEE COMES UP WITH MORE AMBITIOUS TARGET
60% cuts in emissions by 2030 is the new target set by the UK Climate Change Committee, according to This article in the Guardian. It sounds completely bonkers, and EUReferendum blog agrees. Why would the UK want to double an already unachievable target when the rest of the world are not even attempting the lower target?

DAILY MAIL PUBLISHES SCEPTIC VIEW OF GW
Slowly we find that the mainstream press are coming round to the idea that the so-called consensus on global warming is falling apart. In today's Mail on Sunday we find this article with a very strong sceptic stance. Everywhere, except, it seems at the heart of government, I find doubt surfacing.

TWO JAGS DISCUSSES CANCUN WITH ANDREW NEIL
Here is a link to the video clip of an interview of Two Jags Prescott (former UK Labour Deputy PM) who is setting off to Cancun to tell the world's politicians to cut their CO2 emissions. He just cannot see any hint of hypocrisy in his stance. It is both amusing and yet appalling at the same time, particularly as he models himself on Al Gore!

GOOD NEWS FOR SMALL ISLANDS

ENERGY PRICE RISES - THE TRUTH WILL OUT
This article is very revealing. It appears that just as Ofgem is about to look into the reason for the hike in energy prices, the energy companies are coming out with green taxes as the main cause.

PAINTING ROOFS WHITE - BETTER THAN CUTTING CO2
This article suggests it's time to move on in the attempt to control the climate. Apparently making roofs and roads lighter in colour will make a real difference to a large city, reducing temperatures by significant amounts. On the other hand we can limit CO2 and make a difference so insignificant that no one would notice.

THE PROBLEM WITH HISTORIC CO2 MEASUREMENTS
There are many problems with much of the data produced by climate scientists. One of them is explained here. This article shows that there are many problems associated with measurements of gases trapped in ice-cores, and yet these ice-core measurements are presented as though they were an accurate record.

""UK MUST DO MORE TO COMBAT GW" - CBI
This BBC article reports on the recent appearance of Lord Lawsson in debate at the Confederation of British Industry Conference. I find it rather extraordinary that the headline clearly implies that the CBI is urging for the UK to do more, and yet it is UK industry that will be hit by this. It is a crazy form of masochism to want to see more regulation and more costs and taxes on your businesses, or have I missed something?

NO SHORTAGE OF FOSSIL FUELS
This NY Times article testifies to the huge finds of oil and gas that have been made in recent times. Unless governments deliberately put up the price of gas and oil there is no way that renewables such as wind and solar can compete.

LORD STERN TALKS UP TRADE WARS OVER CARBON
If Lord Stern has his way the world will be heading for trade wars between nations such as the USA who are not imposing a tax on carbon and others such as the EU who do. This article gives more details. As an economist Stern should know that such a war would send the world back into recession. In any case there are a number of nations that emit large quantities of CO2, such as China and India, who have no intention of curbing it, so his warnings are both premature and pointless. The chances of a world-wide agreement look most unlikely.

BACK TO THE DRAWING BOARD FOR CLIMATE MODELS
This report looks at how climate models have failed to take proper account of the effect of volcanic eruptions. The article confirms yet again the virtual impossibility of setting up computer models that take account of all the variables which affect the climate. They are no better than guesswork, and yet politicians want to place absolute faith in them.

THE TRUE REASON FOR CLIMATE POLICY
This article reveals in the words of a senior IPCC official the real agenda behind the climate change facade, which is redistribution of the world's wealth. It is nothing new to those of us who have followed the subject closely and read what is in the minds of those leading the 'environmental movement'. Now it is explicitly being said by a leading official at the IPCC. When will our leading politicians wake up and start to distance themselves from this - or are they active participants in a scheme to lower the living standards of their own people?

NZ GOVERNMENT ROWING BACK FROM ETS EXPANSION
New Zealand may be a small country whose output of carbon is insignificant, even by UK standards, but its government has been one of the most enthusiastic proponents of controlling carbon emissions. It is heartening therefore to read this article which states that they are reconsidering their proposal to include agriculture in their emissions trading policy in 2015, unless other nations do the same. The farming lobby in New Zealand has obviously been successful in making its case. Other lobby groups need to take note. The lemming mentality is not the best way forward! The UK government needs to start listening.

CANADIAN CLIMATE BILL KILLED OFF
Another Western nation has pulled back from the brink of passing climate change legislation which would have serious implications for industry and jobs. See here for details. Clearly the UK government has no such concerns.

CLIMATE PREDICTION FOR ALL
This Guardian article looks at an attempt to use computer climate models to predict extreme weather events. I would be surprised if the predictions were very accurate. I note that they are attempting to see if they can 'predict' events from the recent past. It will be interesting to see the results.

ONE MAN'S HEROIC STRUGGLE WITH A REGULATOR
Here's a very detailed account of the fifteen month long battle one intrepid citizen (TonyN) had with Ofcom the broadcasting regulator over the failure of Channel 4 to provide any balance when showing the Al Gore film 'An Inconvenient Truth'. It is a rather long account, but it is very interesting in that it demonstrates the head-in-the-sand attitude of our authorities to take any measures to restrict the global warming bandwaggon. The one exception appears to be the High Court Judge who famously found the nine errors in the Gore film. That was a remarkable victory. I have an intimate knowledge of that case and I know that, in fact, the case nearly ended in defeat as before it went before Justice Burton it was heard originally by another judge who ruled it to be 'out of time'. Fortunately the Plaintiff changed his legal team and successfully appealed that decision. It is hard to imagine that many judges would have had the courage to make the decision of Justice Burton. Surely he is a man who cannot be praised too highly, though I suspect there are many 'alarmists' who would disagree. TonyN is thinking of a judicial review of the decision made by Ofcom; something that could be very costly. It is beyond the reach of anyone but the wealthy.

ENERGY BOSS WARNS OF SHORTAGES IN UK
Here's another warning from an energy boss that the UK, and Scotland in particular, is risking blackouts within a few years, unless new power stations are built staring right now. Time is running out while our politicians fiddle.

GOVERNMENT CALLS A HALT TO SOLAR FARMS
The UK government is now trying to limit the spread of large solar arrays on fields, according to this article in the Daily Mail. They obviously had not thought that large scale businesses would move in to claim the large subsidies, but that's what happens in a free market economy - when you rig the market it leads to distortion which has unintended consequences.

CEMENT MANUFACTURE BEING DRIVEN OUT OF UK
Yet another example of manufacturing being driven abroad by the plethora of 'green' taxes alleged to be imposed to save us from 'global warming'. See this Telegraph article for the details. The irony is that these jobs are going to places where emissions restrictions are less onerous. In other words actual emissions will probably rise - but the UK government will be able to say that their CO2 emissions have reduced. When is this point being made on TV news broadcasts?

MORE CARBON TAXES PLANNED BY UN
This Telegraph report looks at more plans to tax us all to hand over to third world governments to help them 'cope with climate change'. When will the citizens wake up to these plans to take more of our hard-earned cash and pour it down the gravy drain?

IS RATIONING THE NEXT STEP?
This Australian newspaper report looks at an experiment being carried out on a small island using ration cards for both carbon and calories. It looks like the ultimate in control by the state, but it has already been suggested by our own David Miliband.

UN TALKS 'IRRELEVANT' SAY CLIMATE ACTIVISTS
This Telegraph report explains the thinking. Their problem is that they believe a 'bottom-up' approach is needed led by the people. What they can't contemplate is that a majority of the people do not believe there is a problem. Only a small number of activists are lobbying governments to do more on global warming. What we need is for more of the majority to lobby the government to stop wasting our money on pointless attempts to control the climate. Maybe Climate Fools Day will be the start. (see yesterday's post)

A LOOK AT WORLD TEMPERATURE STATS
One of the best websites for news of climate change/global warming is Lord Lawson's Global Warming Policy Foundation (link on right hand side). Here they look at the coming 'end of year' temperature average and what it actually means. Devotees of the climate change religion are hoping for a sign that they are right and the world is undergoing 'significant' warming, but it looks more than likely that it will just be another ordinary year.

EMAIL INQUIRY - SLOPPY OR DEVIOUS?
Those dedicated few with the time can watch the latest instalment of the inquiry into the leaked emails via the House of Commons Select Committee. Exciting it is not, but the implications are clear as this report on Climate Audit explains. Either the Inquiries were sloppy, or they were deliberately deceitful. In either case, as Steve McIntyre explains, they must not be allowed to get away with it.

UK BUDGET CUTS - BUT NOT FOR "AID" TO THIRD WORLD
Christopher Booker turns his attention to the UK Budget this week, and reminds us that while we have cuts at home he is increasing spending on overseas aid, including large amounts for schemes to cut carbon emissions, and even some for the Indian space programme. All this when we are up to our necks in debt with the interest alone rising to £190 billion a year.

COMMON SENSE GOES MAINSTREAM!
I have not read any climate sceptic articles by Charles Moore before, but this one puts his views squarely in the sceptic camp. I expect this shift represents the beginning of a trickle in the direction of common sense. Where Charles Moore goes today, many others will follow.

BIODIVERSITY, THE NEW SCARE STORY
This article by the redoubtable James Delingpole, throws the spotlight on the new scare story set to replace global warming as the big issue on which the UN wants to extract massive amounts of the West's taxes and hand it over to the third world. Now that the UK government has woken up to the fact that we can no longer afford to allow millions of unemployed people to live comfortably on benefits, you would think they might be more careful to look after our taxes, but don't count on it.

DROWNING PUPPIES AD RULED OK
The UK government ad campaign featuring crying bunnies and drowning puppies to illustrate the perils of global warming have been ruled as OK by Ofcom, according to this article. No surprise there! YEO COMPARES GW TO NAZIS
This article gives details of the claims made by government minister, Tim Yeo, who likens the war against Nazi Germany to the fight against global warming. Some may think he is a bit over the top, others that he is completely off the wall. I leave you to read it yourself and make up your own mind.
